I am a wooden flooring professional in Italy, I also work as a restorer of ancient floors of villas and castles and I must tell you that you have made 2 huge mistakes, 1 not having left a little space in the perimeter between the wall and the first round of wooden boards wood, wood is a living material and those boards are so dry that with the slightest change in humidity they will expand by even a few millimeters and the whole floor will deform or could even rise, 2 because instead of using screws you didn't use glue polyurethane, the work would have been easier and faster and you wouldn't have had to put the pawls to cover the screws

That floor will be so unique and beautiful just like the rest of the floors in the house. Bet you are looking forward to walking around the whole house in socks. Sarah, I remember seeing you sit in the floor, pregnant, making the dowels. I seem to recall it being said it would be five years before you got to the other side of the house. How time flies.

Those wide planks of ash are getting gorgeous and period-reinforcing . . . but I could not have summoned the patience to deal with the cupping and twisting; I'd have ended up with strips like a gym floor, haha! But all the kudos from me on that point, recognizing what it takes to mill all that. Getting a floor in is such an invigorating stage in restoration!

The impact driver is turning the head of the screw faster than the shaft is able to penetrate the wood. The excessive tensile force causes the head to snap off. If your driver has a variable torque, try setting it lower. That way the clutch will slip before the screw breaks. Looking forward to seeing the variations of color and graining in this floor when it's complete!

I’ve been binge watching your channel now for several days and am so impressed with your perseverance and commitment to finishing your renovation project. How you have sustained your sanity all these years is beyond amazing. Lucas, your seemingly “no experience, no talent” wood working and carpentry skills can take a back seat to no one. You, sir, are a veritable human dynamo. With sweet Sarah beside you offering help and encouragement; not to mention those three lovely well behaved, personality plus children it’s no wonder you have survived these, did I count seven (7) arduous years?! I wish you much success as you get closer to finishing this seemingly endless journey and am looking forward to seeing the finished bedroom floor and master suite. Needless to say I have subscribed and shared your channel with several friends and relatives. Watching and cheering you on from Central PA.

I have always so enjoyed every video on your channel; I have been watching a long time. Everything about them seems genuine and very thoughtfully done. It is amazing what you have accomplished already (even though you feel like it's been forever) and everything so skillfully done! The bedroom floor is looking really beautiful; just another example of exceptional workmanship coupled with a desire to create beauty and a home that is a reflection of who you and Sarah are. Hope you have a wonderful spring! Will Sarah be feeling like sharing her gardening adventures this year? It would be nice to see some of her favorite projects, current or upcoming, if she thinks she'd be into that. Have a wonderful day! 🤗

I always have problems breaking screws as well when using an impact driver... I just use my drill and that eliminated a lot of the screw breaking. Sometimes the screws can be tough enough for impact drivers, but most of the time unless they're rated for them they just break. Impact drivers have a lot of power that puts a lot of torque on them where a drill might not break as much... Lol most of the time anyways 😂. I think it's because the drill provides a steady amount of power where the impact driver just gives more powerful bursts of power and that just ends up snapping the screws. That's my theory anyway.
@georgebush60029 ай бұрын
Makes sense. If this doesn't help I recommend drilling a pilot hole of the appropriate size diameter for the type of wood you are driving into, assuming there is not already one. As the last resort I recommend hand driving the screw into the pilot hole using a speed handle (aka. hand brace) with quick adapter bit so you can use just enough force to move it. This may feel slow, but sometimes you are forced to trade effeciency for reliabilty.
