So when you walk on it, is it level or does it creak? The old flooring underneath didn't seem like completely flat

This flooring is actually award winning. I think it’s gorgeous and lends a rustic look to the room. Light wood looks like this will come and go in popularity, just as the darker tones will. So it’s personal preference. We tend to do what we’re told in terms of how to decorate from social media or magazines. They get paid to make sure you are constantly ripping out your old look FOR PROFIT! Do what speaks to you! It’s depressing feeling like someone else owns the right to tell what is in or what is out! This looks beautiful. The old floor she had would have been very time consuming and perhaps she doesn’t have forever to get the floors done! These floors take a damn beating I know for a fact. And the color choice is so charming. Great job!!!👏

What is the reasoning for laying the vinyl over the old flooring? I have seen a few other people do that but I've always removed the old flooring first. I'm new to renovating so I'm just trying to learn the why. Thanks in advance for your knowledge. Looking forward to the final reveal!
@studio_adash5 ай бұрын
If the flooring is in good shape and level, it’s easier to lay over top! The flooring comes with underlayment attached so it’s unnecessary to rip up the old. In my case, the flooring underneath had the potential to have asbestos in it so it’s actually safer to leave it contained and installed the new flooring over top. Hope that helps!!

Personally would have gone with a slightly warmer shade to keep the cottage aesthetic alive.

Those planks have an underlayment on the bottom. We installed the same type in our house, it's why the boards are thick.

@@studio_adash Tips > Prep and paint your walls first before laying new flooring. Ceilings too. Work out where any vents and/or new light fittings will go. Sort Electrics. [# Get an Electrician to check old wiring & old Power Board / Fuse Boxes -and INSTALL a Safety Cut Out Switch. You do not want your new investment to burn down 1/2 way through the reno due to old faulty -or rat chewed wiring! * Also, without an accredted safety check - as part of your pre-purchase Building Inspection. Insurers may refuse coverage - if anything happens ] Patch/plaster old ceiling and wall holes -whereyou've moved switches etc. Painting then goes MUCH faster and you don't have so much masking off to do or worry about spills. Then pre-paint your base boards too before fitting.

Because sometimes they can't be salvaged. My parents have vinyl over old hardwood. Originally, when they had first bought the house, they had the hardwood floors redone and they were good for about 20 years. However, they could not be redone another time because they would have gotten too thin (according to the professionals who had done them before), so my parents put other flooring on top.
