I have a bunch of these I should throw up on ebay and pin them with Mako security pins. They also use a special 5C core with a much thicker control lug and need the extra long key blanks (which are getting harder to find). I talked with the seller, apparently it was freshly pinned and newly cut keys when it was sent out. Perhaps a lot of raking caused the pins to be worn down.

Thanks for the video on the armored face Best lock. I installed some of these a few years ago, and had to order special long keys and cores from Best. The long key makes non-authorized duplication alot harder as the long blanks dont exist on the 3rd party market. The armored face is a special hardened steel, and there are optional drill-resistant pins in the UL version.

Having used best locks commercial the biggest flaw is that many people leave the construction cores in and there are 4 construction keys for America red green orange yellow and I suspect a blue is out there and they are used regionally, east coast is green and orange which are very common to get and the cores are painted the color of the key needed

The "sticky" quality of this BEST lock and key is something I've encounter with literally every BEST lock I've encountered in the field. Store owners I talk to that have them on cases always give me a story of how they have to jiggle it just right to open it. Is there a manufacturing problem at play here or are these locks just so beat up in the places they're used that any lock would be hard pressed to stand up to the test of time?
@bosnianbill4 жыл бұрын
Best SFICs are used widely commercially and institutionally, with a long history of reliability. My lock in this video was brand new, apparently freshly re-pinned. A subscriber that is also a locksmith with SFIC experience suggested sticky pins were common and recommended I lube it. I hit it with some spray graphite and it started working perfectly.

This vid was made in 2020. By then, almost everything Best made was seven pins. I got some old Best padlocks from someone on eBay, they were only five pins-the seven-pin keys supplied stick out a ways from the lock’s face. I do have a box of newer Best things, but the box is, of course, in a safe place! 😞There are padlocks, and at least one entry lock. I remember this, because the change key works, and the control key does not-so how did they get the core into the lock? Yes, the control key works on everything else! On Schlage locks, if one disassembles the lock, then the cylinder can be taken from the knob. On the Best entry lock, that is not possible, as the core is too big to come out through the available space. I saw something, many years back, about people who could pick the change and control key shear lines preferentially. I have zero idea how to do this; no surprise!

It appears that your set of best Keys was duplicated on a key machine that's why your set of best keys is not working properly. What you need to do if you have the ability to do so is to decode the best keys and cut a new set of best keys by code. Best and Falcon Keys only works best if they are cut by a code machine only.

Most SFIC locks are a real pain to gut. The pin stacks and springs are inserted from the top of the bible, then a cap is hammered on. Often can't be disassembled non-destructively. As for the stickiness? Like Bill said, it could be a worn keypin. It could also be a thin master wafer misbehaving, SFIC's are frequently master keyed
