Why use galkyd+cold wax with the oil if one wants drippy paint? Why not just add Gamsol to the pure oil?

It has to do with keeping the chemistry the same. As a general rule, it's best to use "like" on "like" - so oil plus gamsol is a very different chemical composition than galkyd + cwm + oil thinned with a small amount of gamsol :)
