Unusual atypical painting. I think you found an ideal stopping point. Right in the beginning that yellow in the lower left was a visual sore thumb. You handled that area really well without making it go completely bye-bye. That was a tough initial color and composition to morph into a worthwhile/workable piece. You have a keen eye coupled with great natural impromptu intuition. 👍Congrats. Stay Safe.

Hi Andrea, I'm sensitive to the solvents in the cold wax which really bums me out because I love working with oil and cold wax. How are you able to work with cold wax since you are sensitive too? I love your work and always look forward to your videos! Thank you!!

Well it's tricky, I clean up with Canola oil and that helps a lot. I also wear a mask as much as possible and avoid doing solvent reduction techniques with gamsol or citrasolve till a few minutes before I'm about to leave the studio...There's a lot to be said for acrylics and I work with them often too. I should post more of my acrylic processes. They're very similar to what I do in cold wax.

@@artistspace, thank you. Yes, I would love to hear more about your acrylic processes. I have been experimenting with acrylics but does not have that luminosity of the cold wax that I love. I would love to learn how it could be similar to cold wax. Hope you can share a video on that. Blessings!

@@mimis289I can not use oil at all and switched over 25yrs ago to Acrylics… by using Matt mediums and Satin in different quantities one can get an almost faux wax look to an Acrylic painting… the garish colours that Acrylics have can be manipulated to look like soft oils. Cheers.

Another question please....Why is this technique called "glazing?" What would you add to acrylic paint for this process? Thank you for your time! France sounds amazing by the way!

France is going to be incredible and I'm so SO excited for my participants and myself ! Any glazing medium will work for your acrylics. I use golden paints and they have a good selection of glazing mediums. Golden's airbrush medium is excellent.

Do you use any oil like linseed or walnut oil to thin and glaze along with the cold wax?

Hi Andrea ..another question please. You mention you are very very sensitive to the spirits ,minerals etc . Have you tried the water mixable oils with cold wax. I am really interested as they are what I will be using and would like to hear your view on them, such as drying times, stickiness etc .thank you so much.

I haven’t used water mixable oils with cold wax for many reasons. Too many to go over here but in short it’s the solvents that I’m sensitive to not the oil paint. Cold wax has both gamsol and galkyd in it, so you’d still be using solvents for some of the reductive techniques… that being said other artists seem to like water mixables. Not sure how they’d respond with cold wax but I’d try it if I were you

Hi Andrea, thank you for sharing your process. How long do you allow your painting layer to dry before adding the glazes. (I haven’t listened to the whole film yet so you more than likely answer my question during filming )😊
@artistspace
@artistspace 2 жыл бұрын
In this case it was three to four weeks before I put down the final glazes. But you don’t need to wait that long. Drying tile depending on weather and paint thickness of the layers is about two to three days
