Wyatt's "dollar" diaphragm sounded much crisper to me. I could really hear the distinct difference in the reproducers as well... Excellent tutorial and after hearing all those I know that Wyatt's dollar diaphragm is really, really worth the extra expense!

Totally agree! Quite a bit more than “a dollar” but they sound fabulous.

Well worth the money for the "dollar" figure 6 diaphragm. I wanted to ask you if the added weight of the dance reproducer pushing down on the diamond stylus causes the records to wear out faster? Love hearing the Golden Gate Orchestra, even briefly. Thanks for posting.

It will marginally cause the record to wear out faster, but you would have to be playing the record constantly in order to notice

I just discovered your channel today, and I'm very glad that I did! I have an Edison Opera Phonograph that used to work perfectly. It's been in our family for over 70 years. But I didn't use it for a few years, and I left it with the spring wound up. I think the spring stretched or something, because when I tried to play it recently, it ran for maybe a second, then quit. How can this be repaired? Thank you for any information you can provide!

Will it run if you give the cylinder a spin with your finger? They have to be oiled. They are very sensitive to lack of oil.. I have a video on where and how to oil an Edison opera so watch that and oil it. Hopefully it just needs some oil and a bit of assistance to spin. If not it will need to be taken apart, examined, and may need new springs, which is not cheap.

@@1974hurt Thank you for the fast reply! The cylinder turns when I move it, but it won't keep running. My (late) dad did something with the spring, over 50 years ago, but I don't remember if he fixed it or replaced it. Do you know anyone in Colorado who may be able to repair it? I was thinking about antique clock repair places, but haven't called one yet.

@@whiteeagle358 will it crank up? It sounds like the main spring broke although there are a ton of variables in play. you’re going to have to take the motor out and totally disassemble it, find out what’s the problem and fix it. Watch my videos on Edison Opera & Edison Amberola 1-A. The Opera has two main springs and I recommend if you have to change one that you changed them both. Otherwise the energy from the one new spring transfers to the old spring and the old spring. also lets go.

@@1974hurt it cranked and felt like it was tightening quite a lot, but didn't feel like it tightened all the way. And it still didn't run on its own. Unfortunately, I'm an old lady and I don't know if I've got the strength to manage a spring.
