Victor Victrola VV 400 4-Spring, 2-Barrel, Motor Rebuild Part 2

In this 2nd part of the series I will be opening the spring barrels, removing the springs, and cleaning each spring and all parts of the assembly. I will only be shooting video of one barrel as the procedure and parts for the second are the same. In Part 3 of this series I will be re-packing and greasing the springs for final reassembly.
This procedure should work for all double barrel, 4-spring motors made by the Victor Talking Machine Company including the entire VV-400 series, the Orthophonic Credenza, the VV-XVI, and VV-111, as well, I'm sure, as many others.
As with all my videos I suggest you play this at x1.5 speed as I tend to speak slowly while I'm working and thinking out loud.

You should use kerosene and use it later as charcoal starter!😃

Fascinating! Thank you. Looks like you've done this many times. Have you ever used brake parts cleaner? Just wondering how well it would work..

This was actually only the second machine I've done and first machine with a 4 spring barrel. I made the video because I couldn't find one online so decided to hack through it myself in case it helped somebody else with their project. Yes, I imagine brake cleaner would make short work of those springs but I haven't tried it yet. Good luck!

On older ones you do have to note the directions the spirals go.
