A true "polisher" is "orbital" meaning the shaft wobbles as it spins so that it never spins in the same place which would leave swirl marks. Gentle pressure, letting the machine do the work, will give best results. I have thousands of hours preparing boat molds (moulds) with release wax to cast fiberglass (glass-fibre) boat hulls and decks. A light layer of wax, allowing it to thoroughly dry, also makes the work easier. You're looking good, enjoying the series. Thank you.

i spent a decade of my life as a child on a narrowboat (most weekends apart from winter) my favourite canal is the macclesfield canal, at bosley (about 10 miles or so up the macc) there's 12 locks and we used to moor up on the offside just before the bottom lock (number 12) and have fires, bbq's etc, my grandads ashes were spread around a tree up there too. revisited a few times on my bro's boat and it still had the same beauty and magic as it had decades ago. absolutely beautiful scenery all the way up the macc and peak forest canal, we used to go to whaley bridge basin too another lovely place back in the day.

Many moons ago, my late wife and I lived near the Canadian Niagara Falls, and we avoided it like the plague in the summer season unless our UK relatives were over. CruisingTheCut no, honestly, it’s just as good listening to your thoughts while you are on the boat as it is cruising. I think a lot of us that don’t have boats ‘dream’ about this lifestyle and so any input is really helpful. You come across as very real, and genuine. You do not come across at all as condescending. Simone is just trying to be rude. This is the best channel on KZbin. If you ever get a chance and it snows there in the UK, you should do a vlog while you are on the boat, a fireside or something. David as far as your polisher, most people seem to rush jobs like that and push to hard, vary your pressure, you are polishing not grinding remember. I found if you use the sides rather than the whole pad it is also less aggressive so no marks.

Hi David Thanks for the chat your boat looks great. I would highly recommend the high peak canal it's fantastic great scenery, from Macc head up to Poynton and through High Lane to Marple and onward to New Mills and then onto Whaley Bridge but don't forget to go down the Bugsworth arm of the canal (it's on your left as you head up to Whaley Bridge where the canal ends). It's not that long but worth a view on your way to Whaley Bridge. New Mills and Poynton have facilities if you need them and it's not as busy as some of the other canal networks. Cheers Jo

What might help is hand polishing the boat with a ‘lighter cutting’ wax after machine polishing. Think of it like sandpaper. The stuff for machine polishing is like 400 grit very rough and the lighter waxed are like 2000 grit. Either that or just hand polish! 😉 looks great!

thanks for the update, hope you have a good week, as for the polising, I love the orbital polisher I can get a lot better shine than hand polishing on our boat, so glad I made the other half buy one, he puts the polish on with wet rag and I use the polisher but to get the swirl out a quick rub with dry cloth and we are done time for cuppa and a slice of cake as reward.

One thing confuses me. Why 27 people gave a thumbs down? On what basis? Are they regularly watching and disliked this one or just casual canal vlog haters? Oh nearly forgot how's the spread sheet on the batteries going, I look forward to detailed graphs in 10 years time.

I totally agree, there's truly, no rush. Enjoy your time. That's what it's all about! I do have a suggestion, regarding the polishing. I think that using a rubbing compound, before polishing, might reduce the swirling (when using the buffer) by removing some of the oxidation. But, obviously, this something that you can do next year (maybe in the Spring), in that your probably almost done with polishing. Be well!
