18650 - Part 7 - Opening Giant Twist Double ebike battery for salvage of 18650 cells

In this episode, I show how to open up a Giant Twist Double ebike battery. In there, you can find 35 18650 cells.
Besides laptop batteries, ebike batteries are a great source for reusing 18650 cells.
The advantage is that there are way more cells per battery and that it is fairly easy to open them. As a bonus, the cells come out as new. No glue, no cleaning needed.

Hello! Thanks for that video... I have an electric bike which I use in between sailing my Finnsailer 29! A friend gave me a good Giant Twist battery, not the same as my battery so I do not have a charger for it, (Twist charger over £100). Do you think I could charge it with my existing charger, which is 2A with a simple barrel connector? What do you think? Cheers! Rich.

This is awesome thank you . I have a twist with the bad 26 volt battery . I'm not able to this repair Can I simply convert this to different battery ? Would just a 24 volt be ok or is 26 important ? There is only a two sockets , no other wires involved

I would use these: www.nkon.nl/rechargeable/18650-size/panasonic-ncr18650pf-3-7v-2900mah.html because they are very price worthy and go down to 2.5V You should keep the BMS, because with a generic BMS you can no longer use the original charger anymore (thanx to Giant). Because the BMS might have a bit higher cut-off voltage than 2.5V you might get a bit less juice out of them than specified, but still, let it be at least 13 Ah which is 4 Ah more than the original. Increasing the lower cut-off voltage does increase the life of the cells though, so it is never a bad idea. What more can you wish for less than 100 euros?

Same here, I've given up and I'm going to strip and utilise the batteries needed for a slightly lower ah and buy a new bms as I can't figure out which wires are the charge- and discharge-, and giant use unique board lettering not found on the web

Hi, not sure if RS is same as RS2, but you can find tuning for RS version on ebiketuning.nl. 2 types of RS.

Hi, this is a giant charger, but the Twist has 3 different chargers as far as I know. You spent a 23 minute video of opening a simple plastic box, but you forgot to show us the part numbers of the Sanyo cells inside. Not very clever is it? Technicians want to know the specs of the cells inside, not how to unscrew a screw.

Ну и бред. Не разбирая можно запустить этот аккумулятор, если полностью не вышел из строя какой-то элемент. Вчера за 30-40 минут запустил точно такой аккумулятор. Сейчас аккумулятор полностью заряжен, готов к работе.
