Wow! That is a massive collection, I'm speechless. Beautiful. A tremendous amount of time and effort has gone into that collection.

Yes, it is a very large collection. Many of the engines you see are on loan from private collections. Thanks for watching!

Our family textile company moved premises from two waterwheel powered mills to a new purpose built mill, halfway between the two, in Keith, Scotland in 1902. My great grandfather opted for an Otto-Crossley town gas engine of 18 HP, I would guess very similar to the one shown at 2.37 mins in this video. This was later replaced for great power and cheaper operation by a Tangye producer gas engine, with the producer gas plant next to the engine. Sadly the Tangye proved to be troublesome and rarely produced its rated power in spite of being changed to the superior and cooler running water gas process. It was replaced by a Shanks-Deutz 80HP single cylinder diesel, which was very good and remained in use until 3 phase 400V electricity reached Keith in 1938. The company which remained successful up to the early 60's was sold to a large industrial combine, who managed to run it into the ground in less than 10 years.

It’s so cool to watch these with all the moving parts. I would assume there are electric motor collectors also?
@ericcoffedgp402 жыл бұрын
They sure are! Yes and believe it or not many of the guys who collect engines, tractors etc have vintage electric motors in their collections! If it is old and mechanical then usually it is of interest to them.
