My favourite GC/MS Reports are from Aromatics International as their reports always have all 100% of an essential oil constituents listed with the constituents categorised under the chemical family the constituent belongs to. My Second favourite GC?MS Reports are from Florihana, tghough one thing I don't like about them is that their reports dont always contain all 100% of constituents, though they do list at least 85+ percent of them.

Interesting. From what I have learned, one should be suspicious if you see 100% in your GCMS reports because the analysis method can't detect all compounds present in the oil. What is your take on that? I visited Florihana in France, one of my favorite distillers, and they had a simple explanation for that. Very interesting topic BTW! Thank you for your reply!

@@BlendPrecisely Its depends on a few things. You can get a 100% GC/MS report, its just that to get a complete report will cost more money to get done for such tiny percentage amounts so many companies simply will only get the constituents that are within a certain percentage range and leave out the constituents under a certain range. Some GC/MS reports that are 100% will have unidentifiable constituents. So Instead of leaving these unidentifiable constituents out of the report giving you for example a Report of 96.2% Identifiable Constituents, they will instead list in the report 3.8% unidentifiable constituents so you will always have a 100% report for data entry purposes, even if only 96.2% of the constituent information is usable. Other GC/MS reports can tell that the unidentifiable constituents is from a specific chemical family but not accurately define what constituent in that family that component is, so you will see in such reports things such as 0.8% unidentified sesquiterpene, etc...... which still will make up a 100% report. Lavandula angustifolia for example we know alot about its chemical constitutent break down. However sometimes there may be a chemical constituent in the Lavender, usually very small trace amounts such as 0.001% of an unidentifiable constituent. What some people do is look at a 100% Generic GC/MS of that Lavenders essential oil from the same company but maybe an older batch, then edit that report with the percentages found in the current batches GC/MS report which usually will have about 90% the same chemcial constituents with slight variations. They will then 'doctor' or adjust the smaller trace constituents from that edited report to reflect the unidentifiable constituent. Example, one companies Lavenders GC/MS for the previous six batches in a row lists 0.05% couramin but the current GC report for the same lavender and from the same company does not list couramin, however there is an unidentifiable component around that some percentage, some will simply postulate that that unidentifiable constituent may be a type of couramin such as a iso-couramin, so will doctor the new report to say that the missing 0.05% unidentified constituent is actually 0.05% couramin. Is this perfectly 100% accurate, well no... but it uses logical thought process to try and get a complete 100% report. I hope this makes sense.

@@BlendPrecisely Not sure why my response did not save. But here are my views on this. Yes there are GC/MS Reports that contain 100% Chemical Constituents as rhere are oils where we see the same constituents occurring over and over again, even in trace amounts. Having said this though, not ALL 100% GC Reports contain 100% Identifiable constituents, some GC/MS Reports will have for example 96% Identifiable constituents listed but in order to make up to the 100% for data entry purposes, this is done in a few ways. Methods 1: List in the GC Report all the chemical constituents that are identifiable in this example the 96% and also list in the GC/MS report 4% Unidentifiable Constituents. LabAroma for Example requied you to have 100% GHC/MS reports uploaded into the saoftware otherwise it would not submit. For those GC/MS with unidentifiable constituents, LabAroma allowed you to enter in a 'constituent' titled 'Unknown Chemical Constituent' and its percentage so your always submitting a 100% report. Method 2: Similiar to method 1, except alot of these unidentifiable constituents may not be indentifiable other than what chemical family it belongs to. So, in some GC reports you will see 'Unknown Sesquiterpene 0.10%, Unknown Monoterpene 1.0%, etc... so your GC total percentage is still 100% Method 3: Using Lavandula angustifolia as an example, if you have purchased this oil from the same brand for the past lets say six batches of Lavender, you could simply edit the GC in the old batch with the information from the current batches GC. You can then 'doctor' the report by looking at those unidentifiable constituents in the current batches GC, what percentage it is and see if you could find a similiar consituent that is commonly found in the previous batches GC which is around the same percentage which is not currently listed in the current GC. You can make a guess that the unidentified consituent may be that trace consituent or a form of it. Example, Camphor which is a known constituent but the unknown constituent could be a isomer-camphor. I hope this makes sense.
