2 жыл бұрын

Today I'm restoring an old country store cheese wheel cutter from 1890! It's made of solid cast iron and built to last. I started by sandblasting it to remove the rust, then powder coating to bring it back the shine. I cut the cheese!

There are tons of restoration videos out there, most of which include buying replacement parts. This video is the real deal. All the way down to repairing the simple cutting board. Would have been much easier to just cut a new one, but that's the difference between restoration and replacement.

Idk if that cutting board was original. Was plywood around in 1890?
@shockwave6213
@shockwave6213 2 жыл бұрын
@@_LocalGhost_ It was, but it wasn't used that commonly for anything, but household pieces until the lathe was invented in the 1920s. The patent for what could be called Plywood first came out in 1865. In 1880, it became a common material for household things like furniture, so this cheese cutter would have been right on time for the emergence of common plywood manufacturing.

You do impeccable work! Simple, detailed and respectful to both the company that originally produced the item and to the item itself! BRAVO!! I have one issue on this particular restoration. The cutting board material. Correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t the original board been either solid maple or oak? The use of plywood over a solid piece makes little sense to me when you consider both the era it was manufactured and the quality of its construction. Please accept my humble apologies if I am mistaken. Regardless, thank you for your videos and please continue your fine work.

My favorite parts are the use of playing cards as an element of restoration work and the powder coated painting. The only part of the video that gives me anxiety is when he starts sanding the bolts and I know how much time is gonna be spent just sanding to prep a part for additional work... Then I see him switching to faster methods and feel relieved. Lol. This cheese cutter vid and the hard candy roller video made my day today. I absolutely loved them both and will probably watch them both again in the future. Mostly because of the food prep that was done with the tools after they were completely restored. My only qualm is a minute one, the blade sharpening section is something I would've done differently, with sharpening stones and a specialized jig made for holding any sized blade at the correct angle(s) needed to sharpen them and then used that. This qualm is mostly about precision and I think goes well with the level of care placed into each project I've seen on this channel so far. But this is a cheese knife... What was done is sufficient. Lol. I'm just rediculous and this guy did an absolutely fantastic job restoring this item. I was extremely pleased the entire time watching both videos and can't wait to see more of them.

I love taking old wooden furniture and refinishing it, doing craft projects, wood burning, building shelves, tables, painting, really anything I get in my head to fiddle with. Well my boyfriend bought me a drimmel. I have never used one before, but now I see why he bought it for me. After seeing all the different ways to use the attachments, I'm looking forward to refinishing old finds, not just wood furniture, although that's my favorite. There's just a joy in taking something one person sees as trash and making it beautiful again.

Ok, this randomly played while I was sanding down my sleeping baby's fingernails. I ended up getting hooked. Then the amazing food at the end started happening, and I was like, whoa whoa whoa! Hold up- this just got even better. So satisfying. It was like getting a bonus prize after already winning the game.

I love watching old things get restored and used for proper uses again. It may sound stupid to think about, but I like to think the object would be able to feel happiness about being able to serve its existence again. Like it lost hope until one day it gets fixed to its prior glory and is able to do what it's supposed to again.

This guy has more patience than I've ever seen. Such beautiful work. There's no way this stuff is even nearly as nice from the factory. But for all that skilled labor and time. I guess it's just practice. A toned hobby. All that work so that he could slice cheese.

Your videos are so satisfying, especially when the sandblast takes away the paint and rust, the polishing wheel polishes metals to a mirror gloss shine, and the screw maker (sorry, have no idea what it's called) cuts through metal like it's softened butter to make new screws and bolts. You are so talented with all the woodwork, metalwork, painting, camera work, editing, and cooking (I'm probably forgetting some talents/hobbies, let's be honest). That meal at the end; you are a man after my own heart! 😋 I get so happy and excited for you at seeing you grow in your craft of restoration and putting in new editing techniques, transitions, and humor into new videos to make them uniquely yours. Can't wait to see what you come up with next! ❤️
