5 years latter and he still hasn't answered the question of the talk. And the answer is within this talk, he just doesn't notice. Even with luther, why does luther changes his mind 20 years later? Luther doesn't directly tell, but the answer is there... He was a nobody when he started, he wasn't at the end, it's literally because of debt.

I'm gonna tell you, jews have never been known much for gangs of robbers. So what is luther really saying? Why is his solution basically robbing jews? What does that tell about his real motivation for switching?

I wish he would have also discussed the secular form of antisemitism that has come from the far left of the political spectrum and he also doesn't clearly portray how media and certain messages were cleverly exploited in modern history to create a specific image of the Jews that builds on old tropes, but have taken on new forms.

Great lecture, but he shouldn't be comparing hatred of Jews, with blocking illegal immigrants. There is nothing wrong with having a strictly-enforced immigration system, where immigrants are accepted or rejected based on their merits and usefulness to the country, and based on officially established quotas - and not based on some people's enthusiasm for crossing borders illegally. Rejecting aspiring immigrants is not equivalent to sending them to the gas chambers.

Powerful content brother but if I were you I would put more emphasis on the the fact that even you, not just 'Americans' or 'Germans' can dangerously tread into righteousness and bigotry. Any one of us. And there is no doubt in my mind that the most righteous can and will do the most damage. The Bible itself has been edited many times for the reasons that seem clear in hindsight now and are worth discussing and not omitting for the sake of what we can learn about ourselves. Understanding the difference between viewing people on the level of the group vs the individual is as profound as is the lesson of forgiveness and responsibility. The responsibility to try our best with compassion to understand both history and our own nature's of tribalism.

This was Churchill’s attack on those movements among Jews that were Communist in nature. Churchill was VERY anti-Communist. He wasn’t claiming that Jews run the world in a vast conspiracy. Furthermore, even if he had said something more like that, it wouldn’t mean much during the greatest swell of international anti-semitism in modern history. Lastly, it’s weird for people to say “The Jews are turning us all into Socialists” And also say “The Jews control everything through capitalist enterprise.” These are obviously two opposing forces. Not to mention that the facts don’t substantiate either of these narratives.

Thank you for the SuperThanks and the kind words for us! With over 700 people in a room, it's almost impossible for everyone to pay attention 100% of the class - and that's okay! The main reason we upload these videos is so that students in the class can always go back and rewatch the class, no matter where in the world they are! Thank you for the SuperThanks! We will add your $2 to our global team fundraiser! THANK YOU!

Some churches that blame the Jews make a point of blaming the bourgeois Jews. Are you suggesting Bin Laden was true Islam? Is that how we should see the world? Germany was Christianized

Really I killed Jesus. I fully believe if I was the only person on earth, God still would have sent his son for my salvation.

You got it right, theologically. According to the New Testament, we ALL killed Jesus. There are enough crimes committed by followers of Judaism (Soviet Communism comes to mind) that we don't have (falsely) put the death of Christ solely on their shoulders.

The Romans did murder Jesus but it's only to placate the Pharisees. Pilate was fairly ambivalent in wanting to crucify Jesus but the Pharisees swayed him to carry the execution.

Yashua was executed for the crime of sedition against the Roman Government. There are over 5000 translation mistakes in just the KJV Bible. Bible written by men not some "god".

Do you even know what a Pharisee was??!! Pharisees were just the ancient version of Orthodox Jews who taught people how to do Judaism at home when it became evident that the Temple was in decline. THIS is the problem. You believe a huge antisemitic teaching from Christianity and haven't even taken the time to learn Jewish history to understand the groups of people you're talking about.

Hmmm yes but Pilate didn't have to do any such thing. In the end as far as the story goes the execution was essential, Jesus knew it would happen and there would be no Christianity without it. So.... shouldn't we thank them?

That's your mythology. Credible historians, like Bart Ehrman conclude that NO JEWs had anything to do with the killing of Jesus. No credible historian takes the position that Pilate had any reservations about killing anyone. The gospel accounts were written to appease the Romans because the Romans had all the power. Rome became the first to adopt Christianity and could not tolerate a text that condemns them for killing God. That being said that God (Jesus) was 100% Jewish. All of Jesus Disciples were Jewish. All of his initial followers were Jewish. But, the Jews were condemned for killing the son of God in spite of the extreme unlikely hood of them killing or betraying Jesus, as a People.

He claims antisemitism to be rooted in Christianity. It goes way way way back , far more. Romans, Greeks, heck look at Pharoh. And you can go back even before that. Jews have been the Hebrews, the Ivri, the other. And that is feared.

24So when Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took some water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.” 25Then the people as a whole answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”

It didn't look to me like the students were that interested in the subject. Maybe if he talked about xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia as well as anti-semitism and hatred of what is different in general and what is required in our education systems to overcome it. There are very few countries in the world where I would feel safe coming out as gay, for example.

If you really want to kickstart some critical thinking into areas that most people don't want to go into, consider that Ted Cruz has appeared with Ben Shapiro in a recent movie called "Lady Ballers". Oh, what a tangled web we weave.
