The opening section could be an entire 20 minute video on its' own and I would watch it over and over. So well done!! Thank you.

Peter and Cathy what a great morning for a canoe trip. Absolutely Beautiful. I always say legs don't fail me now, and sometimes they do. I get up and grumble a bit and go back to what I was doing! Peter I was sure glad you were able to fix the stock on Ryan's gun and I'm also glad you weren't hurt. The shop is looking amazing and will be great to see when finished. I would like to Thank You for allowing us to tag along on your many projects and history lessons! Take Care and Be Safe My Friend.

Hey Peter! Those were some awesome shots in the opening! We are constantly surrounded by beauty and miracles every day! I particularly liked the flock of geese flying over! Oh no! They say, "Into each life some rain must fall!", but that was a whole Monsoon in less than a second! I am glad that the damage to the gun stock can be repaired... without too much bother. WOOF! Your Gun Shop is really coming together and will serve you well! You take care and I'll see you down the Trail!

I’m sure that accidental split on that gun stock won’t ever be seen after it’s all said and done Peter. As a cabinetmaker it’s looks plum good to me for what it’s worth. That huge window is Lovely with light and view! You can’t have too much light at the work bench. It’s a Fine Shop indeed! My shop isn’t huge but I always find myself working in a small fraction of space. Of course the danger is filling up that space I’m not working in! Now if you’re making a wooden vice with wooden threads, hickory is very good for that. I have two good old workbenches, one maple and one solid walnut. But both the side and tail vices have hickory threads. The face of the vices are the maple and walnut. So if you find yourself needing a good dense air dried piece, I’d be more than happy to supply it for you! A bit over 2” I have so keep it in mind if needed. Kind Thanks for this Kelly Station Gun Shop tour! Can’t wait to see it in full operation with a nice fire, snow falling and a whole lotta happenin goin on! Many Blessings, Good Shootin and take it easy cuz ya know how ya are,,,,,,,at least for a change! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

It looks like you are having as much fun outfitting your gunsmith shop as I am outfitting my upstairs bedroom into a studio so that my videos will finally be fulfilled for my Introduction video for what I'm going to be doing. I love the look of your gunsmith shop. You can build some beauties.

Good Day Peter. The maple leaves are just starting to turn red in our area of the maritimes. You must live in one of the most beautiful locations in Canada. I am going to share this video with a gun builder friend of mine. Thanks for the shout out.

I have a very similar anvil that I use when making jewelry. I was appreciative of the fact you inlets your vice into the tabletop. It not only fits now, but your tight inletting keeps it from twisting around which is always a problem with clamp-on equipment.

As disappointing as the damage to the stock is, it really made me think - things like this happened to craftsmen and women all the time! A carefully turned chair leg snapped, a lovely stoneware crock came out of the kiln slumped and misshapen, and we don't often think about that. Such a connection to reality of the past!

Would a leg vise be appropriate to the period? You can get wooden screws and matching tapped blocks. Or you can buy taps and dies. And for real fun there are instructions to lay them out and cut them by hand (external).

The term ,half ass job, evolved from the term half adzed, given to those builders that were in a hurry or to lazy to adze a log into a full square. ...historical euphemism, and slang,Is another Forte of mine...hope you don't mind me sharing.

Nauvoo has an old 1800s gunsmith shop. It could be good for research if you could use a reference and want to see how it used to be.

Had one stock to work down on front end,,found a LARGE worm hole, would have been in a very inopportune position. I t is now firewood for shop stove. That's after an accidental BAD cut from tablesaw,{ not me. the wood}. I have had more "things" happen than all the years I have been stocking flinters. Guess it just goes that way sometimes.
