@@TGD16 the chief editor of BA test kitchen was a racist asshole and POC were severely underpaid and given a lot less space in their videos compared to their white colleagues. After the chief editor was fired there was a lot of talk about making more equitable contracts but POC were still severely underpaid and under featured. A lot of BA test kitchen cooks left the BA test kitchen video production, some left the company all together. If you Google it there are a lot of articles that explain it better than I can.

I know this too and in great detail. The funny short version is he loved it and imported both macaroni and the cheese from France so it could be made here because his noodle machine had issues. The sad longer version was he sent his enslaved hostage, James Hemings, who was also his wife’s half brother to France to be trained as a chef. Hemings would have been free in France but he likely was threatened before leaving for France and then to return back to the US because his siblings and mother were still back in the US as enslaved hostages too. He is the one who made macaroni and cheese famous in the US and Thomas Jefferson received all the credit. James Hemings killed himself at 36 years old. But yeah, macaroni and cheese existed in the 18th century.

I remember about 3 or 4 years ago seeing your il timpano vid and thought: "I like this dude, I'm gonna see what he puts out" then 2 years ago when I was kicked out of my house and sent to another country to at least spend time with family if I was gonna be homeless. Spent the last of my money on that plane ticket, and on that flight I had downloaded a bunch of videos, including yours. When I finally got to my destination and I was finally with my abuela, I showed her the beef wellington video and she looked at me and said that we should do it. And right there was the moment you turned me from a vagrant addict into an aspiring chef. Once I got back home I immediately signed up for uni. Now I'm currently enrolled in Culinary arts and business admin as a minor. And it was all because of that beef wellington. You and my abuela are the reason why I cook

@TishyRose
@TishyRose 3 жыл бұрын
@@yukononun well yeah obviously she is, I don’t think they were trying to come off like they only saw her for her colour. But you can’t really ignore the reason she was mistreated in BA was likely due to her colour, since she is inarguably incredibly talented at her craft and deserves recognition. I think maybe the commenter was trying to acknowledge all of that, and sort of celebrate something that isn’t seen in western media as often as it should be, which is a brown woman actually being given the chance to show how skilled and talented and wonderful she is without it being like a “token” or something. She’s the main focus of this show, it’s all about what she can do, whereas on BA she was often swept to the sidelines and kind of ignored. Now she’s able to shine, and it must be nice for other brown women to see her succeeding, so I don’t see how it’s wrong to call attention to that since it is a lovely thing. Yes, everybody is more than just their race, but it’s still a big part of most people’s identity, and it undeniably can mean people aren’t treated as fairly as they should be just because of their colour. So it’s nice to be able to see Sohla, a brown woman who has been treated unfairly before, getting the chance to shine. But like I’m a white girl from Scotland so I’m just guessing, so please anybody who has more authority than me to speak on this chime in so there will actually be a meaningful perspective instead of my outsiders opinion hahaha
