For someone that "didn't know what she was doing", she was amazingly confident and calm. And all of her ideas sounded *very* solid for the things she was going for. All in all a super fun episode, and not a bad first one for me, I'd think. Definitely the kind of kitchen science I needed today!

It's easy to be confident and calm when there's not stakes. In this format, failing is just as beneficial as succeeding. It makes me feel worse for Claire doing gourmet makes; her level of stress didn't just indicate the unreal timescale, but also that failing wasn't an option. I'm glad they're both on to better things. Those beet-parsnip things looked tasty.

Was it kosher salt she was using? Kosher salt is an actual type of salt with larger flakes. I don't think it's widely available outside the US so people may substitute it with similar salts

The parsnips were perfect. The ice cream was SO CLOSE but she needed to shape it into popcorn shaped balls, maybe topped with some yellow powdered sugar. The whoppers... like why did she make them so not round? Then she's like "alright gravy for meatballs" and she made a white gravy?! Why?! The gel should've been very firm as well, whoppers aren't soft. She had a good idea but the execution was like... why?

She really could have used food coloring or that stuff you can buy to add brown color to gravies and sauces (I forget the name but it's common). Not sure how she could shape the ice cream into popcorn shaped balls, but I wouldn't mind seeing it. She also could have put the whoppers in a whopper box, lol. I think she was just out of it today.

I don’t think Sohla has been 100% stumped. Those red vine look alikes were pretty awesome. And the popcorn ice cream probably tasted good so partial points there. The whoppers would have been great turned into eyeballs for the scary candy ep. A little food coloring would do the trick.

For childhood nostalgia reasons, the glass chicken being incoroporated into every Stump Sohla episode makes me so happy. Every Easter, we used to serve honey scrambled eggs for breakfast, in these same colored glass chicken vessels. They took up quite a bit of real estate in our kitchen cabinets (for a family of 7, we each had our own), even though, we only used them once a year!

I really love how awkward the first handful of episodes of this show have been and how each one gets just a bit more polished. It reminds me, fondly, of the first year or so of Babish where Ratatat was too loud and Andrew had no idea what he was doing yet, but still gave it a ton of heart and charm and made something delightful.

The saddest part is was she would maybe get like 30 secs every few vids, and just in that amount of time everyone loved her - and she stole the episode every time! She was easily my favorite out of the entire BA staff. She was the anti-Molly for me, of whom I'm just not a fan.

With all the shit she's been through, I wouldn't blame her at all for being a bitter person with a terrible attitude. The fact that she's dealt with such constant racism through her career and still maintains a bubbly personality is a real testament to her quality as a person.

I think it’d be pretty good a subtly earthy sweet flavor would be great with the lemon and gin. I’d probably use tonic water but if you don’t like tonic sparkling water is fine. You could even use flavored sparkling water for something different lol

Just wanted to come out and say that I love this new show! I was really disappointed in what happened with Bon Appetite because Sohla was one of my favorite chefs, and I’m so happy to see her cooking again and doing something she loves! I love both her and Babish and I think this is probably the best outcome from the whole Bon Appetite trash fire. Keep up the good work Sohla 💙💙
