The word "corn" is even used in the Bible. Obviously since maize is a new world crop, it didn't exist in the ancient Middle East. However, wheat did, and the translators of the Bible, who were British, translated "wheat", as we know it, with the word "corn", because that's what THEY called wheat :)

It might be a regional thing. I come from the North East of England and we would call wheat fields corn fields. I have no idea why and now that you mentioned it, it seems a bit odd.

@@seanreed69 Corn in german we call it Mais, that's also how it's written in the dictionary. However, languages are changing overtime and so it might just be that once corn was the term for grain.

I'm watching this here in the USA, I know it's an old building and have a history. But for previous years nobody didnt care it wasting away. Someone finally buys the place and wants to restore it, but a govt agent wanted certain modernization. And others he didnt. I understand looks are important, and cheap is frowned on. But to poo poo certian features out of hand. You can guess what some would say.

Yeah, it's not out of hand. The standards had been set and the homeowner jumped the gun and going off plan to do it his way. If the State has so much say, I think they are acting as partial owners on behalf of the people and should pay or free the owner from some taxes or something.

Thank You!!! It's Lovely used to Live In Scotland, in Oregon Now , But My Husband would take me places .We would be on a Train And I would say THERE IT IS !! Some ruin of some sort. or a derelict Church that was up the st. From our flat. He said it's been empty since the 90's Was something , I can not remember. It had a small cemetery in the back. I have been watching it on Google Earth .Someone has been doing something to it. But , Now I have to wait for the camaras fly back over for a update .CHEERS!!

There is no way that a building permit would be granted, from my experience in the USA, with such a high watertable where a perk test is required. Poor drainage seems to be casually accepted in the UK but it is just a silent problem with manifold consequences. And for the life of me, I don't understand the concept of creating a glass barrier between the new and original structure, how it is beneficial visually or structurally

Apparently, the administrators believe that if the ancient building is added onto with ancient techniques, people will get confused an d not be able to tell the old building from the new, will get confused about it in 200 years or so. Bit idiotic if you ask me.

It has to do with seperation of architecture. Its suppose to be clear that one part of the building isnt orignal. That why alot of extentions on listed buildings turn in to glass extentions and so on. Its they way to maintain a great boundry between new and old.

I wonder if it’s similar to the American use of the word “pasta” as opposed to “macaroni” where in the US macaroni is literally one single type of pasta... but in some other countries it could mean any sort of noodle
