Minuet is a set piece of a ball. It is performed couple by couple in front of the whole room. It was a means for people finding a partner.

It's actually not THAT difficult, especially not if you have lessons every day, which a rich heiress certainly would have.

Excellent video. Fascinating, because I have always viewed the Minuet as the lightweight dance of the Baroque and Classical eras (and played them that way as a keyboardist). But, this dance is fraught with issues of emotional significance. Composers would have known this too. Thank you for teaching me something I was clueless about ... It will change how I play Minuets.

About 2:15 this video became for an instant quite elegant which is probably why this dance has withstood the test of time. I suspect what little of dance I learned ('Do the Twist') will not. This video is not properly credited.

Surprisingly, by early 1800s, newly independent Argentina & Uruguay, 2 new S American republics, created several what they called menuets for their new--republics !! Minue Federal Minue Montonero, ex.See videos understand each dance’s name, Minut-/ from royalist to Republican ?!

2:00 Those 18th century male dancers look like gay to me! It must be their moves!

That was the custom of the day in movement among fashionable high society -- though if you put 'gay' into its meaning from back then, then most certainly, it was a _very_ 'gay' dance, though not an indicator of a person's romantic interests.
