Instructor: Patrick Winston
In this lecture, we consider cognitive architectures, including General Problem Solver, SOAR, Emotion Machine, Subsumption, and Genesis. Each is based on a different hypothesis about human intelligence, such as the importance of language and stories.

This lecture explains why Winston is such a good teacher. He speaks in such a way to engage that linguistic system. Too bad he doesn't know that within this system a person needs 6 seconds of pondering of a subject to commit it from short term to long term memory. I like watching videos over in person lectures for this reason -- I pause the video every time I learn something new. You can tell he doesn't know this, because when he changes subjects he doesn't pause for a few seconds.

Where did you get this information? I have a paper i'm writing where this would fit perfectly.

@@jonathanburke7641 Hmm.. that's a good question. It might have come from Barbara Oakley. She does a meta learning course that is pretty basic. I'm pretty sure that information is in her class, but if it is not I'm at a loss. Also 6 seconds is rounded. I believe she said 5.5 seconds. It's been a while so I'm a little fuzzy on it. I hope you find what you're looking for and good luck with the paper! ^_^

One could say that the issue with his class (not a "bad" issue in any way) is that, at least from my understanding of his clases to date (having in mind that i'm formed in biology/molecular biology/genetics), he tries to condense a lot of topics and really complex and profund ideas in each 50min average time for his class. I don't have experience in math, computing or AI, but he presents the ideas in a really simple, yet elegant and complex way, understandable for the common viewer. I do agree tho, sometimes he is shooting ideas left, right, up, down. I don't think being present in the class would allow you to think about them with the required depth, but he sure does his best. And having them on video to pause them is really a blessing.

No, MIT OpenCourseWare does not offer certificates. There might be something from MITx, (maybe www.edx.org/course/machine-learning-with-python-from-linear-models-to ?). Best wishes on your studies!
