Right now there’s a heat wave in Connecticut, even though it’s only about 35°C it probably feels much hotter than 38°C in the uk, since the humidity over here is outrageous.

It was very hot because of high pressure. This might not happen again for a long time.

@Extreme English Weather That’s hot enough to fry an egg and cook meat, but I think the ground temperature can get hotter than that. I have a black balcony and in the sun, even when the air temperature is only about 84°F (29°C) the surface temperature of my balcony can be as high as 203°F (95°C) with a clear sky. I put an outdoor thermometer in the sun on my balcony, and based on how far it went, that’s how hot it got. And based on the amount of time I could touch the surface before having to remove my finger (about 0.2 seconds) it sounds about right.
