Hey Todd I'm heading to Pymatuning this Friday. I have fished the area you mentioned just North of the marina. I'll be on my kayak so I was wondering if you could suggest any other spots I can reach in the yak? Thanks!

I'm new to Pyma, and curious if you're fishing North of the causeway? Great channel BTW.

Hey, Mike, thanks so much. On this video I'm at the southern-most end of the lake; I put in at the state park, then go a half-mile North to the crazy structure that you can see on the depth maps. Goes from 25-30 feet deep up to 6' in places out of nowhere. Drifting over all that structure, mostly watching wind direction for the best drift. www.gpsnauticalcharts.com/main/us_oh_pymatuning-pymatuning-nautical-chart.html

Great tips, thanks. Went there on 13th and 14th and caught a few catfish and some perch but couldn’t get any walleye. How important do you think it is to have a fluorocarbon leader? I was using straight braid with the tube head and black shad. A lot of others in the same area didn’t seem to be landing much either so I’m wondering if they just weren’t biting at that time?
@YFAwithTodd8 ай бұрын
Never tried straight braid, supposedly the fish can see braid, and the fluoro leader helps. I also like to go straight fluoro, six pound, especially in snaggy areas: no risk having to tie a new leader, but sometimes the walleye just aren't biting during the day. At Pyma, for me, it's either multiple walleye during the day, or zero. Nothing will work if they fed heavily the night before. If no walleye bite, I target the white bass-- still fun, go to drop-offs and bait balls where you see minnows (not just birds diving). Thanks for watching!

What would you charge for a charter trip? My daughter and I would be interested. We would want to keep some though....😅

Nice video....we are new to the n.e. ohio area. Orwell specifically....been searching for a boat to take on pyma and mosq. Wandering what boat this is you have? Been looking at some budget modified john boats. Buy very unsure if they would be safe on those lakes. First time boat buyers. Just alot of options out there that are well above our budget....thanks for any advice.
@YFAwithTodd7 ай бұрын
Hey Brad! thanks for watching. my boat is just a basic Tracker, 16' aluminum, 20 HP (I fish L. Aurthur too and you can't have over 20 HP). It's a 2017, I bought it used for 11K, but you might want one brand new, because right around the 5 year mark is when issues really start: trailer pads coming off, depth finder tranducer died, both batteries died (trolling and electric start), etc., etc., etc.. Or get one 6+ years old, after the first owner replaced those things. But a john boat is fine for those lakes. Other options: I fish Mosq. in a kayak regularly and know other guys who do very successfully, same for pyma, once you figure out your fishing spots, there will likely be a launch nearby. I'm soon getting a Bass Pro Shops Pond Prowler 10 Fishing Boat, only about 1K: you can stand up, you can easily install a motor (trolling) much longer range and more stable than a kayak, but far less maintenance than a bass boat. You pull it around on a trailer, and launch it like a bass boat. Hope those thoughts help!

@YFAwithTodd so yours is a flat bottom, or deep v. ?. Thanks for the info.
@YFAwithTodd7 ай бұрын
@@bradbeals1741 It's a flat bottom basic Jon boat. I would prefer a deep v for 3' swells, for sure, but it gets the job done. You just need to be aware of your surroundings and limitations. It does well on big inland lakes: Lake Norman NC, Smith Mountain lake, VA (huge) and even at Presque Isle, for example, even in the wind (20+ MPH). But if you're thinking of venturing into lake erie, with 20 MPH winding coming off the lake, not a good idea.
