You know, I like the videography, and the concept. Two men have a tense argument a million miles from anywhere. Kudos, for finding a beautiful place to make the scene. I did not feel the tension, tho. I cannot say why but I am sure others can. This might be an example: when the second character arrived, the first character turned around casual and calm, almost like he was expecting him. I did not catch any surprise or moment of recognition. I have spent so much time outdoors that I found certain details distracting. Men dressed for riding but without horses. (If you can't get horses, you might wanna dress/equip your actors accordingly.) Hanging around a super smoky fire in the middle of the day. I seriously wondered if he was gonna use that blanket to send a signal to someone.

Hello Brian, first I want to say thank you for watching and thank you for your comment. I do want to provide additional information and context for you should you desire it. One of the main ideas that propagated our production of this picture was making the tension of the film as simple as possible. In most western movies, the tension resolves itself around saving a town, or bringing law and order to the wild west, and we wanted to produce something just as simple yet powerful in reception. This manifested itself into a story about a father and a son, with the son unfortunately being killed. The tension for this chapter then becomes how the father must investigate and act upon the information regarding his son's passing. The drama coming from the uncertainness of the father as he questions the possible killer (in his mind) of his child. The father, Bill Halloway enters the scene under the suspicion that Frank Modesto had something to do with his son's passing. Frank Modesto attempts to reveal the truth of the events from his perspective as well as demonstrating a steadfast resolve of the turning away from posse due to the greed and sinful nature of the posse's participants. Bill demands vengeance, Frank asks for peace. That's the central conflict of the film and breeds the drama and tension. We tried to keep the archetypes for the characters and their relationships simple as the telling of the story will become more complicated (as future chapters will demonstrate with its chronology). With the events of the passing of Bill's son, Cooper, Frank Modesto is expecting the arrival of Bill. It's an inevitable moment for him, which is why he's not surprised with his entrance. As the film progresses, it becomes clear why, they've grown up together, fought together, helped raise Cooper together. Thus, after Cooper's death, and knowing that Bill had left Cooper in his care, Frank knows Bill is going to find him. This showcases itself at minute 3:20, where Frank immediately recognizes Bill and knows the difficulty of their conversation to come. Essentially, all that to say, it was an intentional action. Finally, to address the outdoors piece. Yes, the characters are dressed for riding. The simple answer was that we couldn't afford horses for this project. Our intention is to bring horses and carriages into the next chapter of the story and beyond. The costumes we felt still met the need of the story and gave the audience an idea of where these characters came from. For example, you deduced that they look like they've been around horses even without the horses being in the film at all. As for the smoky fire, truly we used a makeshift fog machine with baby oil and propane. No one on the production wanted to build an actual fire for the picture, because it's Northern California and the area is notorious for forest fires. It still gave the perspective of a fire that is dying, which was the intended purpose of the set piece anyhow. Overall, I hope this provides some additional context to the criticisms. I thoroughly enjoy discussing the films so if you disagree or want to continue the discussion, I will make myself available. But really, we're super thankful that so many people have had a chance to watch our work, and I am thankful that you got to watch it and enjoyed the videography and the concept of the film!

@@newtownproductions17 Hahaha, I figured there was a good reason behind the fire and the horses. I almost deleted my comment -- I try to stick to helpful stuff. I presume y'all will be making more movies and would like to provide helpful feedback, if possible. Also, I completely get the issue behind a limited budget, and I am glad it didn't stop you. It takes a lot of effort to build a small creative effort and a lot of courage to put it on KZbin. I will watch again in light of your comments. Warm congratulations to the whole crew.
