I’ve worked many low/no budget, non-union small films like this one and can tell you firsthand what a struggle it is to get one of these made and published for public view. Most of them are extremely low budget, most expenses paid out-of-pocket by the persons whose vision it was, actors and crew usually working for free and most often just weekends as everyone has a day job or school. Props, locations and costumes are whatever is available for least cost. Music and some general scenery shots may be rented from an online library, the set/stage where interiors are shot might be on a stage at the local community college or in someone’s basement. I worked on a 16 minute horror film that was shot entirely in the producer’s garage. SO GIVE THESE FOLKS A BREAK for crying out loud. Stop nitpicking just so y’all can show us how observant you are. These are films made by folks who truly love filmmaking. When it comes down to it, it’s still about the story idea, not the miscellaneous mistakes that were bound to happen. The story told here was excellent.

Compelling!! The colors, snow, sepia tones are well done!!! Antagonistic plays one note throughout. He needs to be effected by the protagonist as she proves that she knows cards, no matter how he tries to foil her. That is the way the dramatic tension and the stakes can escalate.

Lilith (/ˈlɪlɪθ/; Hebrew: לִילִית Lîlîṯ) is a figure in Jewish mythology, developed earliest in the Babylonian Talmud (3rd to 5th century AD). Lilith is often envisioned as a dangerous demon of the night, who is sexually wanton, and who steals babies in the darkness.[1] Lilith may be linked in part to a historically earlier class of female demons (lilītu) in ancient Mesopotamian religion, found in cuneiform texts of Sumer, the Akkadian Empire, Assyria, and Babylonia.

Good eye, Dixon. The cable knit style was originally designed in the UK in the early 1900s, and marketed in the US in the 1950s--a maritime/sea-farer motif. LILITH takes place around 1864, during the Civil War era. Like all things indie, we had a tight budget to work with, thus the sub-par sweater choice. Overall, I am glad you liked the film. Thanks!

@dougsholly93235 жыл бұрын
@@MarkMitten Ok, but I am still not sure how I am supposed to get that inference in the context of the film. My question isn't a criticism of the film; I enjoyed it very much. I just don't understand how it got its title. There just doesn't seem to be a direct correlation between Charlotte and Lilith. I could have missed it though.
@MarkMitten5 жыл бұрын
@@dougsholly9323 It was subtle, but the clues are there. I will tell you a little more, with a SPOILER ALERT for other watchers.....
@MarkMitten5 жыл бұрын
@@dougsholly9323 What if there was an immortal woman named "Lilith" who had some kind of mystical powers. She had been walking the Earth since time began. Perhaps she took on a new identity in every generation, to hide the truth. In the Civil War era, perhaps this Lilith creature took on the identity of Charlotte, the Fortune Teller. She took life quietly, perhaps to survive, or perhaps because of her nature, and her companion Rueben never realized what was happening. Sometimes clients went inside for a private visit, and disappeared. Like when he dumped out a pail of ashes, and found a ring inside. From an unlucky traveler? Rueben thought her ability to read minds and play card tricks was just that...a trick. But she had a real power. And she used it from time to time...especially when a Confederate Lt. stumbled upon her "act" in his pursuit of an army deserter, only to get too close to realizing her secret.
@MarkMitten5 жыл бұрын
@@dougsholly9323 In the context of the film, look for clues. For instance, notice the JR Connor quotation at the beginning. And the Lieutenant's description of Charlotte's act when he unfolds the small poster and shows the bartender--her "act" includes supernatural elements. "Visions of life, death and other absurdities." Notice the pail of ashes that Rueben dumps out at the beginning, discovering a gold ring, and wondering how it got there.
