Leeds fan here. Tommy played in an era where every team had a few hard men . I used to go to Elland Road with my dad and couldn't wait for the Liverpool game to come round. Tommy was one of the best hard as nails but brilliant 👏 RIP to a great

Favourite story about Tommy Smith was when Chopper Harris poleaxed Emlyn Hughes during a game and he shouted across “well done Ron”. Priceless..

I can remember '77 when Smith scored in the final. There was so much scoring talent in that Liverpool side but smithy wasn't one of them. I can't remember him ever scoring another goal (though I'm sure he did) but he headed himself into the history books that night. Those were great nights. RIP Tommy Smith.

@@MARKETMAN6789 It’s sad in a way how the Liverpool v Manchester United rivalry has become so spiteful. 71 when Manchester United were banned from playing at OT they played a home game v Arsenal at Anfield. That certainly would have been unthinkable even 10 years later. Clubs are very similar but very different as well. A lot of teams want to be be like Manchester United. Whereas most Liverpool fans are just happy for us to be the best version of ourselves. Loved the intensity of the games in the eighties even though Liverpool often lost. Thought Paul McGrath and Bryan Robson were absolutely world class. YNWA

He was also a fierce critic and hater of ltalian football too.... in an interview he gave for LFCTV in 2008...l remember him talking about the 1965 european cup semi final 2nd leg between lnter milan and liverpool at the san siro that smith played in...From what l've read on this. lnter beat us and went through to the final 4-3 on agg. But if you were to look at the TV footage from that game...Two of the first goals scored by lnter should never have been given. And after the final whistle, tommy smith claimed he pushed and kicked and screamed at the referee when walking off the field, and towards the tunnel. But the referee did'nt finch one bit. And that convinced tommy smith that the referee in that game had been paid off...And sure enough years later. After an investergation by the sunday times newspapers . His claims was in fact proven right. And since the 1960s he said. Time and again smith said that ltalian football is and always has been fiddled....RlP
