1905S $5 Gold Half Eagle - More Info

Here is a more in depth video about our recent acquisition of a $5 Half eagle. This is a Liberty Head type coin, minted at the San Francisco mint in 1905.

My husband owns 4 units of a 6 unit commercial office space condo complex. 2 of the units are in an area that was once a residential home (built pre 1900), with the rest of the condo units being built in the late 1970s. Well, the older part of the complex needed a new roof. Contractors were hired, and while they were in the attic, surveying the condition, they found a bag of about 25 gold coins hidden in a somewhat walled area... All pre 1920. They are in fantastic condition, but we have not had them graded. We were able to keep 8 of these liberty coins (years 1885-1901) and one Indian head ten dollar coin from 1915. I know nothing about coins, but this experience sparked an interest!

I just bought a 1905 $5 gold Eagle for $565 + tax on eBay. It's probably a MS63 or less, with very little chatter in the fields, a clean looking appearance. I think it's a decent deal.

So I got a 1895 gold 5 dollar coin, it had a gold band around it. I took it to a coin store and they offered me $400 for it but I felt like they were just trying to get over on me or they were just looking at it in gold value. How can I get a proper appraisal?

How did u get such a good deal on that? Im looking to get one atm but jm bullion wants like $590 for an AU random date. That seems like alot.

I recommend going to your local coin dealer. They are making better buys and have less overhead. I see, again and again, the websites costing more than the dealers.
