I've wanted a tuba for years and I finally found one. This is a 100 year old Conn that needed some cleaning and love.

That’s a very nice find and it cleaned up well. I have a 1957 Conn 20J tuba and I love it. My college band marched them and they add an incredible round and bass to the band.

I believe that you have a baritone rather than a tuba. I played a baritone back in Jr. High. It sat in my lap. You sit in a tuba. Just thought I'd clarify that. Loving the videos on refurbishing the old horns. Thanks for sharing.

Nope. I also played Baritone. It was my second instrument. This is indeed an Eb tuba. I looked up the serial number and it's listed as a Conn New Wonder Professional Eb Tuba. :) I believe you are thinking of a Sousaphone. I played one of those in marching band in yes, you are inside the thing!

Yeah that had a pretty serious coating of patina. Did you ever find the name of the band? Sorry to hear about Mr. Brown. I’m sure he’s enjoying your playing.

It was a band associated with the United Ancient Order of Druids. UAOD, a fraternal organization. They had Groves which were like districts and those in turn had Jr. Groves. This was in a band in a Jr. Grove. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Ancient_Order_of_Druids

Think you could do an electronic home organ restoration?? Recently aquired a yamaha electone from the 80s and adicted to it. CONN made them too, I seen one for free on craigslist other organ brands/models to consider: (NOTE:) The ones with 2 keyboards and foot pedals are the most fun, although the most heavy some with mechanical tremolo speakers, spring reverb tanks, drum machines and all kinds of wacky fun features. Imo the electones are always worth it if you can move them. I tried to make a short list of smaller, more managable models Iv seen or owned over the last 10 years or so. yamaha electone kawai technics lowrey kimbol caravan hamond pyper philips philicordia wurlitzer funmaker sprite, small and not too dificult to move lowrey teenie geny also not very dificult to move

Did boiling the mouthpiece in water get it that clean? What was that green stuff that you sprayed on to the tuba? Did you use anything else in addition to the green stuff and Brasso?
