In this video, I'll be demonstrating two everyday makeup looks. These are easy and simpler than the makeup that was used in Hollywood at the time (which is an entirely different kettle of fish!). It may looks less stereotypically 1920s than the over-drawn cartoonish look many people associate with this era, but simplicity and subtly were two key attributes of "real" 1920s makeup trends!
Products Used:
~Day Look~
Cold Cream: 1924 Pine Woods Cold Cream • 1924 Pine Woods Cold C...
Powder: ... I actually forgot to write this one down. It might have been my 1924 Snow White Powder? • 1924 Liquid Snow White...
*Blush: Forever Summer by Pure Anada creatoriq.cc/3...
Lipstick: I'm using a homemade orange-red shade made with pure red iron oxide. The base I typically use is from the book Make It Up by Marie Rayma because it stays on really well, but a more moisturizing historical alternative base is my 1910's lipstick • How to Make a 1910's L...
~Evening Look~
Cold Cream: Classic Victorian Cold Cream • Classic Victorian Cold...
Powder: 1910 Face Powder • 1910 Face Powder (This isn't my favourite powder, but I was dealing with some breakouts that day and it is a bit more opaque than some of my other powders)
*Blush: Forever Summer by Pure Anada creatoriq.cc/3...
Lipstick: Bite Lipstick in the shade Tannin
Mascara: DIY Cake Mascara • DIY Cake Mascara (plus...
Eyeshadow: 1919 Cream Eyeshadow • 1919 Eyeshadow Recipe
*Brow Pencil: I didn't actually use it in this video, as I always look like Groucho Marx when I do my eyebrows. However, on the rare occasion I do fill them in I use Pure Anada's Brown Pencil creatoriq.cc/3...

My grandmother, a young Flapper-farming lady in her 20's during the 1920's - yes, I'm that old - was chastised by her mother-in-law for wearing lipstick. But, my World War I veteran grandfather told off his own mother, saying that he liked the lipstick on his wife, and she shall wear it! 😃 Grandmother always looked good in her lipstick. In later years, when I was finally around, she also colored her hair a vibrant red!

I think my favourite part of making history-themed videos is when people share stories like this! 🙂

As a silent film buff, I love your use of classic movie footage! It's always edited so perfectly, and is so on-the-nose for what ever you're discussing! It's awesome! 😃

Thank you! It takes me ages to find all the footage. I've started taking notes when I watch old movies so I know where to find certain clips when I need them.

Well done, as always! I wish I could look as polished as you with that very subtle amount of daytime makeup, but for my coloring and features, I need a little bit more to look put together, although I do use similar principles. For the evening look, I thought you looked great in both the "poor" and "better" light conditions. 😊

It's strange how the same amount of makeup can look very different on different people. On you, that amount of eyeshadow looks soft and minimal. On me, that amount of eyeshadow looks like A Smokey EyeTM Must be an eye shape thing

Probably. I have fairly hooded eyes, so eyeshadow tends to look less-impactful on my eyelids.

What an amazing coincidence - this is the second time recently that l have been wondering when l'd get to see a new video from you & at that moment l got a notification of a your newest clip! I believe today you crossed my mind because I was giving myself a Piggy Paint manicure 💅 Thank you so much for introducing me to this wonderful non-toxic option. (Is that your favorite Piggy 🐷 Paint red shade l see on your nails here?) 🤔 Most other cosmetics 💄 that l use come from the recipes you share on your fabulous channel. I love recreating looks from different eras using your expert guidance and genuine vintage sources. I LOVE my 'Kate' products and can't wait to try the suggestions presented here. Thank you for keeping up this channel, which l have come to treasure. 🤗

I read somewhere that kleenex was invented specifically for blotting cold cream I don't know if it is true, but it's a great story.
