Hello all and welcome back! In this video, we get the differential back into the rear section and get it shimmed appropriately. We then adjust the reverse idler gear and get it locked in place. Finally we talk about shimming the main bearings (a tedious task). Last we install the governor/fanshaft and upper water pipe into the tractor.
Things are coming together nicely! Let's see what the next video brings us!

Most people don't understand what it takes to put something together properly and set all of the factory specified tolerances. Thanks again for putting these videos out there to help others and educate the people that are attempting this themselves. Thanks Kenny!

It takes a lot of patience, assembly, disassembly, reassembly... Multiply that several times and you get a finished product (and a number of busted knuckles)!

Yes. It was a long week, and two evenings of trial and error on these items.. On top of the vehicle issues. I just wanted to get this part done. It's tedious. It's nothing that is stimulating to watch... And it can be quite frustrating.

That tractor is coming together nicely! Such detailed restoration work, great job Kenny. This is going to be a beautiful John Deere D when you finish with it. Thank you for the update. 🚜 👍

Totally agree that sometimes you have to get in there, get your thoughts straight, and get it done! Nice job Kenny! Looking forward to getting mine that far along. Thanks!

It was a long week, and to be honest - I just didn't feel like taking a 2 day job and turning it into a 4 day job. I just needed to make some headway on these sensitive items. Appreciate your understanding!

Dang, that gear assembly gave you and Rudy a fit! ha ha. I wonder how it was done at the factory. But, you guys got it. Busted knuckles and all. I think Rudy said, "Holy shit, anyways". ha ha I do have to admit: Although I liked the rock music, I muted it.

I know the music isn't for everyone, and I am ok with it. The differential takes many moments of "which way do we turn it now?" and "Nope, tilt the other way"... Coupled with "Raise it a little, ok now lower it"... Ha ha. All of those things combined with banging your fingers between a heavy assembly and a big cast iron tub. It's enough for anyone to turn the camera off and let out a few choice words. Ha ha.

Setting tolerances IS tedious. I totally understand leaving the camera off to make progress. Looks like you are well on your way Kenny.

Between the two evenings of work, and then trying to fix the truck on top of it... I just wanted SOMETHING to get done. And this was a big item that I was nervous about. Feels nice to have it behind me.

It’s been said that “an artist must suffer for his art”. So, as you’re going up to the house for some Mrs. first-aid to your bleeding hands, just keep repeating, “I’m an artist, I’m an artist…”. It won’t be long till this old war horse will be taking some laps around your place. Best wishes for continued success! 🥸👍👀👋✅

I would be curious about the order of assembly at the factory ? I'm sure records, and anyone involved are scarce. Thank you Kenny.

There are a few old films from the 30s that show assembly of the A and B models on the DVDs that the Two Cylinder club sells...........

Tough to say. It's far easier to get the crankshaft work done without the first reduction gear in place. My guess is the order that I am doing things is [roughly] how it was done at the factory. But, it's anyones best guess!

I'd be willing to bet the dimples on that axle are from a center punch. The race was probably sloppy and doing that makes them fit tighter. I've done it many times
@KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch
@KennyKizzleRustyNutzRanch 28 күн бұрын
That's exactly what they are from. I'm not ashamed to use the axle the way it is. Biggest thing to focus on is the condition of the axle splines and the threaded portions. They can really suffer when stuff is run loose.
