Ambrose never sounded so good as he does here in a Prozoot concert. Such a remarkable body of jazzage . music you've shared here over the years, and always at your high standards of audio excellence! For which us 78 dance music collectors are eternally grateful. Thankyou for coaxing out an almost lifelike performance out of those old shellac grooves, adds so much to the pleasure of hearing them. I've enjoyed your work immensely. Merry Christmas to a fine artist and my favorite promoter of the jazz age! 🎶

....You will never find a bad vocal on a Bert Ambrose record. He hired singers as he would the best musicians. It was for the benefit of the whole performance -- even the vocal trios had creative and smart arrangements. Ambrose had impeccable taste in every area of orchestra presentation. His inventive charts never lagged -- even the weakest link would be brought up to his high standards. Just a reminder: For listeners who appreciate the full HD audiophile experience, the best sound on these videos doesn't happen for a good 24 hours after posting. It takes KZbin several hours of curing time until the audio is fully resolved -- so, I recommend that viewers wait until the following day before listening (or, you can listen twice and make your own comparison). Generally, the longer the video, the more time is needed for full processing. Of course, it is all dependent on how revealing your sound system is. And good hearing always helps!

This sounds marvelous through headphones right now. From 480kbps onward, it's very hard to make a distinction.
@Prozoot2 жыл бұрын
@@phaasch ....the distinction is visual -- the graphics. In my summary I was not talking about the 1080p HD option -- I was making a point about YT processing time for the audio. Mr Porter has gone off on a tangent that has nothing to do with the topic.

Certainly worth mentioning that an individual's own hearing plays a major part in regards to perceived playback quality . Unfortunately I'm a victim of my own misspent youth , playing certain L.P's , I won't mention name's , far too loud for my own good .

Savage Hot chart on Sugar Is Back! S A V A G E!!! Ambrose lifts Mike Landau's late 1929 jazz composition to a new level. It's so dynamic, so brilliant, superbly chorded and syncopated, almost wild... it's a hot juicy Christmas Ham dinner...a big fat Jazz pig...and Ambrose sure puts the lipstick on it! What a Socko finish to end this Superb Ambrose set with ! Thanks a Million Prozoot, for saving and sharing the Jazzage musical fun. ❤ This! 😊

....this is my first "big fat jazz pig" and I'm a vegetarian! Ambrose put lipstick on it, but I wish he would have whipped those Decca recording engineers -- the sound is awful (and it was transferred from an N- vinyl test). Probably the worst-sounding Decca of that entire early group, but I'm happy to know you are a forgiving person.

What can I say about this terrific selection?? Ambrose was as you said Roger so refined, so elegant... And for me 1928-29 was a period of not only of many memorable songs but also one of the highest moments in style for popular music. Dance music had a delightful balance between hot and sweet that makes it irresistible for me. Many thanks for everything specially the restoration that in my Marantz sounds like if Ambrose were playing for me in person 😉

Although all the bands from this era are a joy to listen to, this particular band / selection is quite exceptional! Wonderful arrangements and complex harmonies with the strings included - not to speak of the syncopations and all kinds of little surprises. A wonderful recording and transfer! Thank you so much. I think that the Ambrose band was better here in 1928 than later on. More rhythmic with better arrangements.

Only about 8 records of Ambrose in 1928..It's generally thought Ambrose reached his highest during Lew Stone era of arranging...1929/30
@TWELS202 жыл бұрын
@@davidglow3 I agree. However, I like the sound of the 1930-32 Ambrose Orchestra. You can hear the sound of that period emerging in "The One I Love Just Can't Be Bothered With Me" from 1930. Also, compare these records with those the Ambrose Orchestra made later in 1930 here at the Prozoot channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZu8f3pug7yYn8U.

Any thoughts on who is playing lead trumpet on "Singapore Sorrows"? Too early for Hooley. Rumours are it's Jack Jackson, but nothing in Rust and Forbes to verify this. Whoever it is, they are very assured, and play with positive swagger.
@irsw51 Жыл бұрын
My World Records double LP from the late 1970's lists the trumpets as Leslie Berkin and Dennis Radcliffe. The sleeve note is by Rust and my copy of Jazz Records says the same. Sylvester Ahola joined later in 1928 playing alongside Radcliffe.
