This scene is a pretty accurate in showing how a typical musical of the 20's looked. A very large chorus of singers and dancers was common more than what we are used to seeing today.

Yes and novelty acts like this from vaudeville were common. Have a look at the final scene from 'Gold Diggers of Broadway'.

Love her in the "Blondie!" Films. When i was a kid they aired those weekly on network television and was something i looked forward too, along with Andy Hardy.

It amazes me how long these people must have practiced. The young lady doing the gymnastics in high heels is quite amazing.

I didn't realize that it was Penny doing the gymnastics.

I have seen Betty Boop doing all her moves, Betty must have been based on her, she is fantastic, that fast stiff leg walk off stage is incredible

I like this clip (even though there is an error with KZbin right now and can't view anything). I wish the whole movie was available. Right now, if you get or rent the 1947 version of Good News with June Allyson, they include this clip as an extra.

It appears that there was a great deal of reaching towards the ground in 1920’s choreography.

DAS, To think Penny Singleton went on to become Blondie Bumstead in The Blondie Series of The Late 30's and 40's along with Arthur Lake. She later on became Jane Jetson In the cartoon character in The Jetson 's too. RCJ/LEO

Yes, and this grand Dame lived to see her 95th b-day. Also received 2 Hollywood Walk of Fame stars, one for radio, one for movies...And was a labor leader, fighting for the Rockettes, e.g. What a fine woman!⭐

As silly as this looks, you are watching history here. This was a typical Broadway show of the era.

You have to know those movies to understand what "Betty Boop" was intended to make fun of.

Good Question~! As I understand it, this film exists today only in incomplete form (minus the final Technicolor reel.) Surviving sound elements (Vitaphone discs) & all manner of photographic still material could easily be culled into a "representative final reel" that would serve as a digital re-creation , but apparently enthusiasm & money are lacking. Historic to see this in the social context of our "pop" culture -- Our loss.
