What a wonderful cornucopia of stops. Years ago worked to get the Curtis Organ at Penn restored. One would call it an orchestral organ. Keith Chapman could get it sounding like a real theatre organ for performances of Phantom of the Opera. He was just amazing. Used to love watching Kieth talking visitors' ears off while mindlessly and perfectly playing the Wanamaker organ.

It's great to learn about and hear this "little sister" instrument at Boardwalk Hall. I've always been curious about it.

What a fascinating instrument. Its dual theatre and classic nature reminds me of the John Compton organ at the Southampton Guildhall, which has separate theatre and classic consoles for the same instrument. Nick and Dylan showed off the organ beautifully, and I so enjoyed Carl's chamber tour (and the friendly shade thrown re: wood vs. metal pedal basses). It's going to be quite a day (or week, or more) when the M-L is ready for its OMF debut!

Some of the Vox Humana have longer boots and shorter resonators, whilst some have shorter boots and longer resonators. Guessing the higher pitched Humana reeds have the longer boots and shorter resonators.

What a great intro to a hybrid organ. What I missed was a clear description of the divisions. There are four manuals and one was described as a bombard. What were the others, and what was on them? The specifications connected to the video were not very informative either. Atil this was nice introduction to a fascinating organ. Thank you.

Nice job on the organ restoration!! Great video as well and an elaborate tour! Just a quick question. Did my ear detect that this isn't in equal temperament? I love how pure some of the thirds are when playing the solo reeds and would love to know what temperament you used and is the whole organ tuned to that or just the reeds? Thanks for your wonderful work!

42:00. When you’re giving a tour of the percussion instruments, it means that be helpful if you NAME the items and explain which ones do what!

I'm curious...specs I've seen of this organ show the Tibia available in the Solo at 2-2/3' and 2', besides the 16'-8'-4' mentioned in the video. Has this unification been removed?

SO - this is NOT a historic restoration. That becomes obvious when we see racks of electronic controls. You took the easy way out - rather than to releather and clean the original pneumatic relays, you installed electronic controls. That's nice but very expensive to repair, should a board go bad. At least with electro-pneumatic switching it was easy to locate and repair any problems. What is the electrical tape doing on the slide tuners. Surely that is not original. Those slides are likely coke tin, very tight, possibly corroded. Why not go to the new slide tuners that use thin metal and don't squeeze the pipes - often distorting them. We can overlook the use of flex pipe to wind the toy counter. Working in metal wind pipe would take many hours and cost a lot to cut, fit and solder the wind lines. It does look nice. The wonderful Kimball pitman chests, to easy to work on, so fast. I wonder, how many stops on one chest. Usually not more than 5 with the center primary. Nice job overall. but NOT a historic restoration.

Robert, why not historical?
@organbuilder272
@organbuilder272 Жыл бұрын
@@JIMD6370 Because they completely changed the working parts of the console, removed all the original switching and relay systems and replaced them with equipment that is modern, unheard of in 1930. They might have restored the chests, reservoirs and cleaned the pipes, but the controls systems, workes of art in themselves, have been replaced.
@JIMD6370
@JIMD6370 Жыл бұрын
@@organbuilder272, well, then very few restorations, including the Wanamaker, etc, are "historical" as they've replaced the original relay systems with modern systems for ease of maintenance, ease of operation, etc. I think the only original relay room left on a big organ is the right stage relay room for the M-L.
@organbuilder272
@organbuilder272 Жыл бұрын
@@JIMD6370 CORRECT, sadly. Either modern day builders do not have the skill or want to make the $$ by replacing that which is simple and effective and far more easily serviced. I pneumatic or electric relay - $20.00 plus labor. One electronic board $360 plus labor and not repairable. Change the action - isit is not restored. Change the pipes and it is not the organ - remove the builder's name plate. No different than repainting a van Gogh, or rewriting Tom Sawyer.

So if you are familiar at all with this instrument you'd know why and not be screaming here and be happy it still exists at all, during a renovation at boardwalk hall someone took a sawzall to the wiring bundles and obliterated the relays, they were gone, they had two options , replace or it never worked again and this instrument would be lost to time. So which would you prefer? The same happened out in the main hall with the Midmer Losh, you take what you can get
