1930 Sunbeam Model 9 Gear Selector Adjustment

In this short video I attempt to show how to adjust the gear selector mechanism, to ensure correct alignment of the gears in a 3 speed box. Although this bike is a 1930 the gearbox was in use from 1921 to 1933 on a wide range of Sunbeam bikes.

In the late 1940S my uncle had one of these. He changed it to a foot gear change, he also used to cut up bottle corks to put in the holes in the clutch plates, he took us from London to the Lake district with a Swollow sidecar on it camping My mother rode pillion and my brother and I were in the sidecar, and it rained for 9 out 14 days we were away.

Because the gear box takes greece not oil how do you know how much greece is in there with taking the box apart. Cheers Ray
