My favorite browsing magazines were from the major three retailers: Montgomery Wards, Sears and JC Penney’s! I always used them for clothes ideas and then go the local sewing store and find a similar pattern and fabric to make it. Back then (70s) making your own clothes was definitely cheaper than buying them. Movies was the only escape for most. I love watching movies from that era. My favorite movie wardrobe designer was Edith something. She knew how to make those actresses look fine😉

When I heard of dresses made out of flour bags at school, it was always framed as if it was the beige jute bags with holes cut for the head and arms, glad to see people have been peopling this whole time, lol

I'm really going to enjoy this series. I'm 79 and and my mother was a thirties lady. That is the style I love. I have a dress that I bought about 40 years ago that looks (because I still have it) exactly like those with the flare at the bottom and the length. That dress is in my closet today and I would wear it (if I had some place to go!) still today. It made me feel like a lady. As a child I never saw my mother in slacks or even shorts for that matter. BTW, I love your make-up. Thanks for sharing the Sears Catalog I couldn't wait for it to come out!

It’s astounding to me how cheap things were back then; you couldn’t even buy the thread now for that price! And quite honestly clothing was so much more beautiful and they were figure flattering; not like the stuff that is made today that basically shows every asset a woman has. I’m really thankful for your videos and the things that you share.

I adore 1930's fashion, I suspect largely because of my love for Astaire and Rogers films. Never tried wearing the fashions though, always felt too big for them, so this video is just what I needed to see!
@TheGlambassador3 жыл бұрын
I felt the same for a long time. But the fact is we plus size beauties have ALWAYS existed, and we've been wearing clothes the whole time. I hope you can find ways to incorporate some 1930s elements into your wardrobe.

Thank you!! This exactly what I needed :) being plus size shopping for vintage reproductions is a challenge since most seem to be centered in rockabilly style (which are adorable but its not always what I'm going for personally) so knowing where to look and what little things to look for when shopping is so amazingly helpful. And thank you for always modeling your outfits its so important for me to see how they are supposed to fit and drape on someone who looks like me :)

You are so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful. I'm seeing small improvements in more size inclusivity with reproduction brands. We just have to stay vocal about our desire to wear their stuff.

I love this. The 1930's and 1940's are definitely my preferred style decades and I'm the same dress size as you so literally do a little internal happy dance when I see how insanely gorgeous these clothes look on you! My wardrobe is nowhere near as expansive as yet but I'm learning which brands to gravitate towards and its safe to say you've become my absolute style icon at this stage 🥰 I just love how you put outfits together and sharing your love of clothing and style with us is both informative and fun ❤ I wondered if maybe you might consider doing a video on which brands you are able to wear in more detail (Vivian of Holloway, House of Foxy etc) and how their sizing works for you? For instance, their biggest shirt size states B46 W38...does this tie in with a US 20/UK 24? Also maybe a video on your absolutely favourite pieces/outfits would be fun! ❤

I’m so happy to hear that you’ve found inspiration in my videos! I’m working on a list of size inclusive reproduction brands for my blog, but admittedly It’s been pushed to the side since I found out I’m moving. I want to make sure I do the right research and get the correct information out there for everyone. But I a, working on it I promise. If you follow me on Instagram or on my blog, I always list where my clothes are from, so that should at least give you a basic idea of what companies are offering plus sizes. And I’m always happy to answer questions, so feel free to reach out.

I stumbled across your channel, I've enjoyed it. I love the styles from late 1900, 20's, 30's, 40's & 50's, especially the 30's. You helped me, you gave some suggestions on where a large woman can find some vintage looking clothes & they have some modern ones too. Thank You! I was trying to look for a dress for a special occasion, but not having any luck. Then, I went on to one of the sites, and I found several dresses that I plan on buying. Now, I have to just choose one of dresses for the special occasion. THANK YOU!

And of course pictures themselves- I have a bunch of albums from my grandmother of her in her first 40 years of life, with most photos in the ‘30s & ‘40s area. Absolutely priceless to have 🥰
