Somehow I made a couple clips black and white. Because it takes 3 hours to upload, I am not fixing it. Just pretend your back in the 1960's.

Jonathan is the eternal optimist! We always hear him say “not an issue” or “not a problem” no matter what he encounters. I don’t think that “this can’t be done” is in his vocabulary. He always finds a way by skill or magic to accomplish the task. Great content that is always a pleasure to watch!

Definitely not a common engine, and I'm glad you're using it!! You show originality!!!!!!! Not the typical, 350 stuff so common today. Let's see how many folks will know what engine this is when you take this to car shows.... ( I didn't know what engine it was until you told us. )

@Captionmarvelous 4 жыл бұрын
You're correct about the engine, I didn't know that GM made a flat head V8? If he didn't tell us, I would have never known! Who else made a flat head V8 beside Ford. I think it was Henry Ford who invented the single block cast V8 engine? I think Chev's first V8 that I knew of was in the 55 Chev?? Overhead valve,maybe a 283?
@fredmartin3117
@fredmartin3117 4 жыл бұрын
The SBC you refer to started in 55 as a 265 and evolved into the 283, then 327, then 350 and eventually into a 400 some years later. A historical fact - Chevrolet first introduced a V8 in about 1917 which was too far advanced for that timeperiod, it was not accepted and was scrapped.

I had a 55 Ford 2 dr town Sedan , Black with the one chrome piece down the side. I worked in a Auto Junkyard when I was first out of school , And this 428 4spd Mustang came in that had went sideways into a pole ,nobody was hurt bad in it but the car was toast , the input shaft was bent on the trans , I took all of the running gear out of the Mustang and put it into the 55 rear end also, had a 3.55 ratio ring gear and a locker with the N on the case above the pinion. What a sweet car ,even had the round radio in it and it worked as did the clock . Many is the time I hear a old rock song and it takes me back to my 55 Ford .................one special car.. Thanks Jonathan for taking me back again ..hope all is Well down there in the USA , up here in Canada ..iffy .......stay safe

Two things that I will add: 1. Drill a 3/4” hole near the end of one or both of the forks. That way you can use a clevis or an eye bolt close to the tip of the fork. 2. Tie a rope to the raise/lower lever so you can move the engine and lower it at the same time. That is beautiful engine! I am glad that it cleared the steering box. One less ass ache. Thanks for the video.

If you watch Iron Trap Garage, they are building "The Sweet Heart Roadster " similar to this and ran into firewall clearance issues as well. just about wonderful. I was so happy to see the new upload. That engine in the 31 is rolling art. I worry how you can make the exhaust artfully hang down. The steering box just exactly fit, and the clutch looks like a snap too. I like the front end suspension look for sure but yes, check it out good. This engine in this car is so cool looking and pushed back feels right, and a 5 speed stick is amazing. just a wonderful project. Thank You so much for sharing . Reminds me when i put the 57 Olds 371 in my 47 Chevy Coupe. We had a level on the manifold and held the engine up on a hoist hanging from a garage rafter. then fab and weld motor mounts and cross member with a Lincoln Tombstone welder. Angle joints on the steering shaft like yours too. Just love this project. You take care and rest once in awhile. Thank You D

That flat head V8 looks so good in that car. There are a few things different in this this combination makes this car amazing it is just a slick looking outfit. I had 1930 Model A on a 1970 Malabu frame, doors welded shut, flames painted on it. First had 350 Chev, 350 auto, 4 barrel quadrojet, possi-track that thing was so wild it was scary to drive. I put in an in-line 250 6 cyl I sold that engine to a guy he wanted it for his Chev pickup. Then I found a V6 265, 6 Cylinder out of 1970 Elcomino looked exactly like a small block Chev V8 only two cyl shorter not alot of power but; it fit that car perfect. I sold it after 20 years my arthritis made it to hard to clime into. I had not seen the car for 7-8 years, the guy called one day a few months ago looking for a rear end. We had a nice chat I guess he customized it abit. Any way's I feel the need to go one day to see it. Only I am afraid I may wish I still had it, just to give to the grandson. Like an old friend some times I really miss that old car she was a head turner. You know how it feels when people some times are drawn to a vehicle. Then you get to talking they always ask 'where did you get this from'? Then when you tell them 'I built it' their eyes light up, It's i just an amazing feeling.

That 346 Cadillac V8 looks really old school residing there. Yeah the exhaust will be a challenge Maybe mount two glass packs and rain flappers straight up. Like I do the headers on my Demolition cars. LOL. But still I have faith you can work out the problem. To bad Arden never made overhead valve heads for the GM flathead V8s. I have a set over at my brothers shop . But they were damaged when the Ford v8 exploded under a heavy shot of nitros. It was mounted on a 1940 WC Allis Chalmers Super stock Antique pulling tractor. Blew the rods,Pistons and flywheel out the bottom of the engine.

Then give it your best effort. This is how the old time hot rod motor heads got their start,by doing. With time a motor head gets better and loves it even more. Tell Nana Cat hello, you let her be an outside cat and she loves you for that. Regards from the north west and thank you.

Would you gain an extra bit of room on steering box by drilling and tapping holes in the mounting plate letting you move it out a bit

If you were putting on fenders, I really like the look of the floating front fenders. Not sure what they are called, but the one that only attach to the front spindles or backing plates. You have to love a flat head.

Man,Jonathan, that Caddy V-8 engine MAKES that car. Ford should have stuck one of them in there to begin with, but then you wouldn't have had the chance to show Henry what he SHOULD have done........lol. Thans for sharing, God Bless, and stay safe.

I'm impressed how you can do this all by yourself and even filming! I can't take the dash off my car without somebody helping me hold the panels.
