I just recently found your channel. To be honest with you, I wasn't sure if you were being "you" or just making a video to entertain people. But as I watched, then watched another. I can honestly say I have had some of the same feelings as you. I think sometimes I could go back to some basics and be happy. I grew up living like that and I can tell you it could sometimes be a very hard life. But now years later I look back and would enjoy some of the simple times again. I think we have quite a few things in common, and could very well share lots of stories, recipes and cookbooks. I also cook from scratch and can. I know it's none of my business, but by just starting to watch your channel, I have been trying to get to know you from your earlier videos, just to get to know you better. I was wondering why we never see your husband in your videos and you say he goes to work. Doesn't this help your income if you are debt free? I was under the impression that you only live off your utube income. I guess that's where I don't get it that you go get the free food in order to eat etc. also where do your Mennonite roots come in? We go to Holmes county in Pennsylvania to shop and sightsee at the Amish shops. Or rather we did until about 3 years ago when my husband had a bad accident at work, and now can't work. Just 6 weeks before this my second son had a massive stroke and it was touch and go for a time. Had to have 2 brain surgeries and now is paralyzed and can't speak.. Spent 7 months in nursing home then I brought him home for a little over a year then he had another stroke. After getting out of hospital he's now once again in a nursing home and probably be the rest of his life. He was 43. So when you said that you never know how your life can change overnight.you are so right. I don't mean to go on and on, but like I said, I feel a connection with you now, and I think you would understand how life changes really affect you in many ways. You learn to appreciate things you took for granted. I feel like you could be a good friend that I've never met but feel I know you. Keep up your channel and I do love your thrift store finds and you Q/A vlogs. Sorry I think I wrote a book but that's how I am. I don't have a lot of friends to talk to either, God bless you .

Growing up we always used a pastry blender to break up the boiled eggs for egg salad. But we had a bunch of eggs being a family of 8 times 2. My Moms theory was "since your making, might as well make enough for 2 meals" saves time later.

This looks so good! My late mother-in-law used to make sandwiches using olives, cream cheese and walnuts. I know that sounds pretty odd, but they were really good! I think that was also a Depression Era recipe.

Hey Tessie, have you ever made creamed eggs on toast? That is an old depression meal that my mother used to make. It's just a cream sauce (white sauce) and you put sliced hard-cooked eggs in the sauce, pour over some toast. Then grate some eggs over it for garnish. Sprinkle with paprika. Green onion or parsley is optional.

Thank you for the idea! I grew up on many Pa Dutch dishes living in Pa and half of the family were Pa Dutch but never had this mixture. I have a cookbook I found in a flea market that was published in 1939. It has fascinated me because some of the recipes in it are unique. I keep it on my bedside table and look at it from time to time. And they're are several recipes in it that included miracle whip.

I retired from WellSpan York Hospital in Pennsylvania, and the cafeteria served egg and olive salad sandwiches quite often. It was very popular (because it is very delicious!). This has inspired me to make some for myself now that I know what goes in it. Thank you!

I loved this video! It reminded me of my great-grandmother. She always made egg and olive sandwiches. I never tried them though. Now, I want to. She also kept a diary in the same time period of Fannies and all the way up into the late 90's. I have all of her diaries. They are so helpful in learning different things or looking at things from a different view. What a treasure. Keep these old-fashioned videos coming!!

Never had that but will try it! I normally use dill pickles, onions, celery and tomatoes in mine. Never tried celery seed or apple cider or sugar but so interesting 😊 my grandpa always told me when I was learning to talk I was talking Dutch lol but I love recipes from Amish families so much!!!

I love this. I make egg salad sandwiches, just as yours minus the olives. I will be adding olives. I also use this "base" then add either boiled diced potatoes for potato salad, or tuna, or diced cooked chicken. They are all very yummy! Happy New Year to all of you!

A little (but very yummy) variation on the egg and olive sandwich. Use mayo, and mash up the eggs with a pastry blender. Works really well. Now, a good recipe to use with Miracle Whip. Waldorf Salad. Cut up apples, walnuts (or pecans) and celery into small pieces. Add Miracle Whip to taste. Delicious!

Oh My God Tessie, I have not had this in probably 20 years. My Mother use to make this and use she used Miracle Whip in it too. The only real difference in her recipe and yours is that she used a meat grinder to coarsely grind up the olives and the eggs. My whole family is from Bradford, Erie, Kane area of PA. Yay! Egg&O! An old family favorite of my dad and me. He always made E&O in sandwiches when we would go climb up Hawk Mountain outside of Hamburg, PA. We NEVER used Miracle Whip---only Hellman's. Also, my dad loved olives so we had two jars in our E&O. Love it.

I love egg salad with Howard's green tomato piccalilli on toast. Mayo nooooo to Miracle Whip! Love the large green olives too with cheese inside but can't eat many because the salt blows me up. Makes a great lunch. Never knew Miracle Whip has been around so long.
