A word about our singer. Kearney Walton (b. 1905) was an original member of The Foursome, the vaudeville-film-recording ensemble formed at Washington State College in 1925. He left the group in 1928. In 1932 he was a member of AFM Local 234 in New Haven, CT, and in 1932-'33, made several recordings with the Gluskin band in Paris. By the '40s, Walton was in the insurance business in San Francisco, and was a soloist with the Orpheon, a local male choir. He was also a painter, showing in many regional exhibits.

Lud Gluskin was the conductor at CBS in Hollywood for many years. He played a short version of Goodnight Sweetheart at the close of the Sam Spade program. That was the signature closing with Spade saying it to his secretary.

More delightful tunes. These are so clear, they sound as though they could have been recorded only yesterday! Thank you for all of your effort to keep these classic melodies alive!

Really a studio band, as the business turndown in 1932 hurt Gluskin particularly badly and compelled him to cut back to a dectet for live dates. Pathé, happily, still wanted the usual 16 or 17 musicians, and Lud and his arrangers got the utmost out of them. These are beautifully played sessions, with the band more exuberant and recorded more "close-up" than American record labels would have tolerated at the time.

I appreciate the info (thank you), and your username is a treat. Pls allow me -- a longtime copy editor -- to point out that "dectet" is preferred -- you write beautifully, and it's a shame to let anything mar your prose even a little.

@@dw999 Kind of you to point that out so graciously. "Dectet" it now is.

@@RatPfink66 Thanks for your kind reply; in my experience, the best writers are receptive because they have no insecurities about their wonderful prose (I'm not just blowing smoke -- you write beautifully). Thank again for sharing useful info, and for your kindness.

Do you have High Tension by Lud Gluskin? I don’t have it and have been looking for it a long time. It is not on KZbin and has not been reissued on lp or cd.
