@@mohammedjalloh7658 Sorry, I meant 1930s, but I guess you knew that. Thanks for the comment 👍.

I've got only fleeting knowledge of 1030's music, but judging from what I've checked out so far I dig those improvs on the hurdy-gurdy the most, maybe with a recorder solo thrown in for good measure.

Wow, superb tune. Isham Jones was one of the greatest bands in the 1920s and 1930s.

I love to hear the Jones crew in these briskly-paced arrangements; they had a unique, instantly identifiable way of addressing rhythm. Eddie, my favorite vocalist with the band, does a splendid job on these cute lyrics, in his regular guy manner. The Bozzies, of course, had the other great take on this gem.

Eddie manages to combine sorrow and verve without even trying, in his natural, unaffected, as you say, regular guy manner. He is so convincing it makes me fear it won't turn out too good for him. She won't return, he will grow a long, white beard, with his forlorn stare he'll never stop spying around for just another glance of her. People will misinterpret it as 'crooked' and call him 'the old man of the mountain', quasi a prequel.

@@henridelagardere264 Well, much as I adore TOMOTM, it breaks my heart to think of our dear Eddie, callously though he may have behaved toward his girl, taking to the rocky prominences and eventually looking like the latter-day Howard Hughes! -- even with that twinkle in his eye, with which he passes amused gawkers.

@@Trombonology The _only_ highpoint in Scorprio's tedious Howard Hughes flick was the scene of the BG Quartet setting out on a nocturnal flight in the LA Moonglow. I prefer the Scorniro movies any day (or night). [The Irishman was GD awful, though, turned it off after a few scenes]

Thanks. This makes an interesting comparison with the only other version I know, by Lew Stone. I have to say, Lew swings his version with great verve for a British band if the time.

This post (both the audio and label scan) were from a 78 owned years ago by a collector friend and which is no longer available to me. Two online references would be the DAHR (click on the matrix numbers for details about each side): adp.library.ucsb.edu/index.php/objects/detail/22371/Victor_24595 and Discogs (which used my label image): www.discogs.com/release/30620182-Isham-Jones-Orchestra-I-Hate-Myself-For-Being-So-Mean-To-You-All-Mine-Almost
