I'm stoked to see that combo in action. I have a little body shop myself and I'm fortunate enough to get to build what I want every once in a while and I just happen to be customizing one of my older Harleys and customizing my 66GMC. I'm making them match, so I can throw the bike in the back and hit up car shows and what not.

On the cold chisel; when a “mushroom’ starts to form on the head from repeated hammering, it is important to grind off the edges of the “muffin top”. The flared steel is very stressed and unstable and prone to splintering. By grinding off the splitting edges of the “cap” the risk of shrapnel flying off is greatly reduced. Years ago, hammering an old star drill into concrete, an edge shard shot off into my hand. Deep! Fortunately, it was not into my eye or someplace that tweezers and magnet couldn’t reach. Since then I always wear safety glasses and all striking implements have their heads ground clean.
@amerritt2613 жыл бұрын
When my chisles mushroom and split I remove the splits an take it back a little then heat it with my cutting torch and dunk it in old oil. It give a slightly bigger head and helps prevent it from mushrooming more.

Looking back at the casting information on the Hupmobile engine, it looks like it mite be of some value to a person needing it for a restoration project. The castings look solid and well done. It would be interesting to see how many main bearings it has. It might be a smooth runner. Check the timing, the motor could be firing even though the timing is off. I had an engine that a mechanic had rotated the distributor 180 degrees off. When I replaced the heads after a valve job and wired the plugs according to the cap instructions, it would fire but it would not start. I rotated the motor to number one cylinder to check the distributor, it was 180 degrees off. I got the distributor in the right position, cranked the starter, and the engine started and ran immediately and smoothly. Just because it is firing a little bit does mean it is timed right. Rough running is a symptom of poor timing. My car was a 1971 Buick Rivera with a 455 cu in engine.

Looking good for the Hiltz's gang on their race car, one more step closer today. Glad to Jolene will be driving for them, she'll run their ass off the race track and have fun doing it. Can't wair to see them racing, but Bad Chad says it aint about how fast you can go (bullshit), just wait until he starts racing, coming in last, is not no fun at all. He'll be fixing it up to go faster, cutting weight, etc. to gain a few places up the line from last to what ever is better than last place in a race.

Although your car may not need to be certified and licensed on the road the track may have a tech requirement (something that is very standard at drag tracks) with a minimum safety standard required for the track based on. Might be worth a quick email to the organizers to find out, so that you can fully enjoy your awesome project.
