This is a walk-around and short road test of a 1936 Studebaker Dictator Business Coupe. Pay no attention to the guy who says it is a "President" - it's a Dictator!

The 1936-1937 Studebakers were designed by the great Helen Dryden. I believe the 1st woman to design a car. That explains that beautiful Art Deco dashboard.

I was behind one of these about 10 years ago while driving down a rural road. At first, I figured it to be a custom "resto-mod" that exhibited a modified rear end and window. Later, I found out that the rear, with the nicely shaped window, was all original. Great styling cues for that period of time!!

back when stylists had never heard of "blind spot". Beautiful car though, in really nice shape!

what an absolute beauty...love your stude...I bought my '36 dictator back in early '96already semi-rodded and regrettably without that awesome art-deco dash..instead, the previous owner fabbed a flat dash with full autometer gauges...and aftermarket bucket seats with a '70s gm tilt steering column...I still love my big white bitch and i'm a hot rodder at heart but your stock stude is a beauty man... };->

36Studebaker ugh sounds disgusting!! Hate idiots that replace OEM gauges with the new stupid ones, they don’t look nearly as good and they look so fucking cheap too!!’ Why would anyone go for them, the way the gauges work haven’t really changed in the last 70 years lol... not like they go bad... it’s so obvious to tell those gauges just have a piece of paper as the background... I hate when people put them in old cars!! If I were you I’d try and get it back to factory lol!!

This must have been restored. These are so very rare. It seems to run like new. I would want the overdrive, if only to spare the engine at 55.

Esta marca, siempre fue imponente en su estructura, y sencillo en su estilo,pero, no menos en su capacidad motriz y velocidad por la distribución, y, la relación de caja y diferencial. Cómo mecánico lo admito. Graciassssss.

Remember folks in '36 there weren't many really nice paved roads like now, so 60 was a good speed at the time.

Probably back in then the word "dictator" didn't have the negative connotation as it has today.
@RapperBC4 жыл бұрын
Actually, it did. The title and the name is a joke: there was no "Studebaker Dictator". (You might be joking as well, but in case you're not... well, the word "dictator" goes back to Roman times and has had a negative connotation since at least as long ago as the founding of the American republic.)
@jakekaywell59724 жыл бұрын
@@RapperBC Yeah...about that...the Studebaker Corp. did actually produce a model named the Dictator. It was their bottom-of-the-line trim, below both the Commander and the President. It was still a pretty nice car when it was new because before WWII Studebaker was regarded as a solid mid-range marque. For export versions of the Dictator, they were rebranded the "Director".
