Just found this series and watched all 7 of them in one night. Really helpful since I'm currently working on the 12 tube version (12S265). Looking forward to the next installments, especially servicing the shutter dial assembly. I'm very sorry for your losses but glad you seem to have landed on your feet. Keep up the good work!

John, My reply is probably far too late to be of much use to you. For that, I apologize! I've had some false starts on getting back to the channel. I've no excuses other than getting through the loss of Wifey was a lot harder than I would ever have known. I am grateful for your kind words (a year ago! yikes!). I will try to be worthy of everyone's kindness and get back to work on the channel. I am editing more video on that Zenith shutter dial. Sadly, the video quality trailed off as my wife got more sick (I recorded all of it before she passed), but I think it's still worth including on the channel. I've also started recording a new project, which will be the first one that I've documented in nearly three years!

Buster reminds me of my late cat "child" Maurice, aka Boo Boo. I really miss him. The use of the laquer thinner is something new to me...glad you showed it...and the mixing of it and the Singer Sewing Machine Oil...will have to try that myself. Thanks for sharing the video.

once on a X-ray service call I found the problem to be the 6-deck rotary switch for the exposure timer was missing the wiper on 1 deck, the contacts had sliced it in two from being operated thousands of times between 1938 to 1979 when I drew the short straw so to speak. Desperate I fabricated a wiper from the metal lid of a 'Buss' brand plastic fuse container and silver soldered it in place. It worked fine, and I figured it would last at least 6 weeks, and I should have a part within 30 days, so being over 500 miles from home, I drove home & ordered part the next day at the office, and carried on as a field service engineer. When part came in & hospital contacted they said to wait until it broke, then bring it & install it, they had paid for the part, so okay. We took that machine in when we installed a new system there in 1980, the old one was re-sold locally to a clinic, while I installed the new one, and I re-installed the old unit upon my return, placing the new deck switch still in the package in the bottom inside floor 'tray' of the x-ray control, I could always drop by and install it when the one I repaired finally failed. It was still there in 1989 which by then I was in another State as a Factory service representative, but later in 1992 met a veteran who had worked at a local (to there) clinic that bought it from the local clinic I had re-installed it in, and he said it still worked fine, and the new switch was still in the base of the machine behind the cover. This balances the universe where the brand new part that took 2 weeks to get overnight air freight again over 500 miles from home, up in the Ozark mountains, in winter, fails in 3 days.

Hello Michael !! Good to see you again my friend!! Yes I love cats too, I have one cat now, her name is Christmas same as the holiday, I found her and her brother 14.5 years ago!! I lost her brother about 7 years ago very suddenly !! He must have had a heart attack or a bad stroke, he was O.K. one minute, and gone the next all in about 3 or 4 minutes. I found both of them as 2 week old kittens under a small lumber pile about 3 weeks before the major holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, So I named the female Christmas and the male Snowball. Yup they were both largely White, about 90% !! This must have been one of your older videos !! Looking forward to your next installment . John Bellas KC2UVN.

Yes, sir. This video is from about January of 2018. I wanted to finish this series, but my heart was not in video-making for a very long time, after Wifey passed, two years ago. That's her, in the beginning. The video of her was actually from late 2016.

Muffy passed in 2002 and I still miss her. Whatever we did we would have a furry supervisor watching us or poking her nose in. Mealtimes we had to feed the cat first or we’d be falling over her as she would round our legs till we caved and fetched cat food. Cats get right into your life and leave their hair in there, lol. No greater stress reliever than a furry companion. Can’t wait to see how the shutter dial works, it looks so cool. Stay safe, all the best from “downunder”.

The gentleman who has been the mainstay of supplying those sorts of parts recently retired. While I will find it to be challenging to ever match his level of expertise, I am going to try to be of some use to the community by eventually filling some small part his very big shoes. I bought a vintage Grundig Majestic console(PP EL95) unit and recapped the electrolyte capacitor since it had 120 cycle hum. Now, no hum but one channel is giving me less volume whereas other channel works nice. I have measure the preamp tube ECC83 voltage with out tube it comes around 215 , with tube 50 and 95 in pin plates. Any suggestion to fix it will be helpful and thankful.

More to come on that, soon. As far as solder braid goes, sometimes I can find it on Amazon. Other times, I find it at MSC, and finally other times, I have to resort to eBay. The wider stuff is very hard to find sometimes. I used to be able to find it in 25-foot spools. Now all I can find are 10-foot or 5-foot. Please forgive the long response. All of the above is my long way of saying that I am grateful to you for watching my vids, and I am working hard behind the scenes to be able to give folks more video projects to watch and perhaps more help with their own projects. Hi how you doing! what's going on with notifications bell it's crossed out I can't set the notification Bell I can see the cog wheels binding you look you is shiny spots where the cog is not round and is pinching you can run over it with a jewellers file bevelling the edges as well First clean them out with a toothbrush isopropanol might be enough and slight bit of oil on the cogs. Not sure you should measure with crocodile clips on the tone control the clamping force could actually decrease the resistance and give you a false reading

You are a thought leader and teacher in this arena and some of us that have been working on radios (this is year 15 for me) continue to enjoy your content. I am familiar with the gentleman that retired, and there is another older gentleman that is still making some of the parts as well. Perhaps we should email each other so I can share information I have. I've put my Shutter dial on hold as well, and it sits in the garage, because...well life got in the way. The radio parts of this video is from January of 2018. The part at the beginning with Wifey is from late 2016. She was recovering from a surgery and was on chemo. Wifey passed away in May of 2018. After she was gone, I didn't have it in me to edit videos or make new ones, for a very long time. I'm just getting back to it now. Hence, the old videos. But, I hope that the information is timeless and useful to you! Cheers! Michael

The reason that the videos have not been coming is that Wifey passed away in May of 2018. I tried several times to get back to tending the channel, but I just didn't have the heart to stay at it. I am getting back to it now, and I hope that I haven't lost too many people. I have some pretty cool projects coming up, and I am still planning to finish the Zenith. The content quality is not as good at the end of that series as I would like. But, I still think that it's worth posting the rest of the series. Cheers! Michael
