Welcome back Micheal. Your videos have been missed very much. My heart goes out to you and your family. I have always learned from your videos, so they are much appreciated. I like using tubular rivets cinched by a dedicated rivet press when I can on mounting tube sockets and terminal strips only because it seems more professional and factory built. Like 99% of the viewers to your channel we all envy your local electronic supply. Probably 1 of may be 10 in the entire country no matter the size of the city. It would be wonderful to enjoy so many things we took for granted in years gone by. Time machine wanted! Really enjoy your work. I wish we were neighbors, I would be bothering you way too much. Take care; it’s always a pleasure to see you.

Hey Don, It's terrific to be back. The next several vids are ones recorded months ago, but I am getting back to radio work and I am recording new stuff now. In the mean time, I'm going to put up a "real time" video up on the channel soon to explain all that has happened since I lost Wifey. Some of it is good, some really bad. This has been a rough road, but at least I'm learning how to steer around the ruts and potholes! Thank you for the kind words regarding the content. I try hard, but I have strong opinions. Sometimes, I worry that I go to far! Take care, my friend. Cheers! Michael

I have to comment on the RPN calculator. I would of never made it through ME college if it wasn't for my HP 48GX. I also have to say my brain hurts trying to follow along with the electrical of this radio, I have the schematics as well because I also have a 9S262 that needs some work. I had to take an EE class and it was insane hard for me and watching you work on this stuff just confuses me more and more. I don't know if I am going to attempt to work on my radio or not now. I really hope you can continue to put videos out and finish this build because I am extremely grateful and hopeful to see this finished.

Thank you so much, Larry. It is good to be back. A whole lot of stuff has happened since that last video, some good and some bad. I'll be doing a "real time" video in the next few weeks to explain some of it. It will take longer than I imagined to get to the point where I can start to think about getting back to normal. It is happening now, and I am starting to learn how to negotiate through the new terrain. I am so grateful for your prayers and kind words. Take care, my friend. Cheers! Michael

Hey Michael, It pained me so much to see you go to all that trouble to make those connections to C18 on this video. I understand what you were saying about not having both parts of the old electrolytic connected, BUT...the negative side of that electrolytic is connected to the chassis whether there is a wire connected to it or not! Connecting the new capacitor and the resistor to the positive terminal of the old Electrolytic still puts the old cap in the circuit!!! So, you really need to either move those connections to a terminal strip or something else that doesn't use ANY part of the old capacitor at all.

Glad to see you back! The wife was just asking about you this weekend. A little tip for the stranded wire is to tin the end before you try and insert it so you don't end up with stray strands of wire. Keep up the good work!
@thattubesound22146 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I do tin. Sometimes, the solder will crack if the wire is moved much. I know that if I just tin the end, it's fine. Just a habit that I ought to change, I suppose. It's good to be back! A bunch has happened to keep me away from the bench and the channel. I'll explain soon. In the mean time, take care, my friend. Cheers! Michael

I eagerly accompany the chorus of those welcoming your return; that, and it was great to hear the word "cool" used properly once again. Two weeks ago, I had someone complain that "I add way too much overkill" to my work; I replied that "for the most part, every job that I've ever had, contained one common aspect, at some point prior to (that job's) completion, I had between one, and four hundred lives placed directly, or indirectly into my hands." By my 22nd birthday, I'd had both "the aspect and importance of 'best practices' workmanship", and the credo that "it is a honor to be remembered for the quality of the work which I do; to be remembered for the way which I interacted with those around me (a mostly pleasant demeanor); and when it's all said and done, to be able to honestly say that "I gave far more than I received.", sewn into my grain. Growing up in a family which was in the auto body business for more than 80 years, instills a level of craftsmanship, and competition, which served well for me all of these years. We've both been at this "thing" long enough, to have nurtured a fairly adept 'gut instinct'. It's our name, and our reputation which is attached to our work. That's why that radio appeared on your bench - its owner wanted their radio to receive "that Zenith standard of workmanship", with which it was created.

I'm a bit late, catching up myself, but I'm glad to see you back, and I don't mind the "old" video, as your narrative rambles are so enjoyable. 21:50 - Yeah, big problem with Amazon is a lack of shipping options. I _prefer_ UPS only because they can be redirected to a local UPS store (a secure site) for me to pick up. I just recently ordered some shelving brackets (a la Blueglow Electronics recommendation) and they were shipped DHL, sort of. I think they were fobbed off on Lyft or Uber or Dominoes Pizza. Some was "lost" then showed up, some came directly, none came on time. B&H is KILLER. I've been using them for as long as I can remember. Top hand outfit, very professional.

I apologize for taking so long to reply. I've been moving and there are other large transitions happening for me right now. My biggest concern is getting back on track with customer radios. Boy, it's tough to get back to my schedule of the past!The whole AMZL is still a nightmare for me! I am moving, and so I have been using a PO box for my mail until I get settled. That makes the shipping situation even more challenging. I have to believe that they will eventually figure out that we need options for shipping method and that, as customers, we need to be able to select from those options.I recently bought a Lumix GH5 and G9 from B&H. Both purchases were top shelf experiences. I will be a customer of B&H for life!Take care, my friend.Michael

Hey Michael, It's so good to see you again my friend! Thanks for all the tips you provide. Yes, I've seen John do the same thing as well, but I tend to forget stuff over time if I haven't done anything for a while and it's good to be reminded from time to time. Amazon really has gotten sloppy lately. Several things I have ordered with prime have taken 3 or more days to receive and I remember when I paid for it it was supposed to be 2 day shipping. If I wanted to wait 3 or more days I would have stayed with the free shipping option on non prime. And now it's going up an extra $20 for renewel...if they can't mange their 2 day shipping now what is an extra $20 supposed to accomplish? I stay that shaky all the time when I'm dealing with small wires, etc, lol. Take care, Gary
@thattubesound22146 жыл бұрын
Hey Gary! I missed working on the channel. I actually found it very difficult to even work on radios for some time. I felt awful, because I owe work to people, but I just couldn't get my head around radio work. It's good to slowly be getting back to myself. That will include picking up speed in making new vids and putting them up. I don't mind paying for Prime, as long as I get what they promised. Amazon Logistics (AMZL) in Salt Lake has really dropped the ball. It seems that they have improved slightly, but they have a long way to go to be worthy of the Amazon name. Take care of yourself out there in the corn desert, my friend! Cheers! Michael

Greetings;eh The ground lug on that canned ohm (?) resistor gets its ground where it is mounted to the chassis. It is not shown, but there should be a connection to the resistor at that point. If it is not obvious, all of the canned ohm lugs below the ground lug are negative DC voltages used for grid bias including the oscillator.Note the abbreviation for oscillator is misspelled on the schematic.

ThatTubeSound Michael, I have some raw footage of "The Basket Case" where Im repairing the cabinet, man, I know why its called "The Basket Case", lol. The final finish on it will have to wait until the humidity is drops a bit here. The 64 C10 is coming along pretty good! Ive painted the rear frame and parts with rust encapsulator and gloss paint.
