Interesting as always ! Thanks. PS : Bantam bodies were popular in drag racing back in the day.

Oh yes, the smaller the better!! Just bolt the fenders to the headers and put what's left of the body on top of the diff and HOLD ON TIGHT!!!!!!

I've always thought the Crosley looked odd. But the Bantam was nicely proportioned. It was an attractive version of American cars of the day. Unfortunately, Americans weren't ready for small cars. It was used for fun in some comedy short films of the day.

Although they were cheap to buy, and highway performance ( 60mph ) was not needed in 1939, size still mattered. Note how big the spectators are compaired to the cars. Although were were still stinging from the depression, people in the position to buy a new car wanted a full sized car. Willys coupe was $630 ( production 14,734 ) , Ford coupe (V8 ) $630 ( 38,197 ), Chevy coupe ( 6 cyl ) $628 ( 41,770 ) , Bantam $399 , Crosley ( 2 cyl ) $350 With gas at an average of 10 cents/gal, Americans would rather buy a used Ford or Chevy than these small cars. They do make great clown cars and sign toppers, as well as outstanding dragsters!!!

This video needed a King Midget lined up alongside the Bantam and Crosley.

That would have been perfect, The Mow-ron, except, they were post WWII. Surpizingly, I have yet to see a King Midget in the show!!! Here is a Series 3 I saw at Carlisle: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIerm2iEr5KIjc0

@@carshowreporter Yes, I expected to get called out on the post-war thing. The guys started the company when they came back home from WW II.
