Change nothing other than fix a few things it needs to have done. I would also look to move the battery to a more reasonable location, perhaps put in an automatic transmission.

I hate to see what that cost in today’s market 😳😳 But like they say it’s cheaper to buy one already finished than to try building one yourself from the ground up. Those old late ‘30s and early ‘40s trucks are surprisingly light weight. A small block in that 2500 lb vehicle probably scoots along quite nicely 😁😁

The only post 1940 parts I see that are definitely GM corporate are the engine/trans and steering column. IIRC the 2WD S10 front end is basically a a narrowed A/G body set up complete with Saginaw steering box and linkage, S10 rear was mostly 7.5 10 bolt, some 8.5 in 4.3L V6 stick trucks, all rear loaded with C clip axles. Whatever parts were used they do look fairly well put together, this one should clean up quick, as you said, what one hopes to buy.

I said it before Kiwi, your standards are just too high! This truck is a cream-puff and what every buyer expects when they buy one of these, but rarely gets. If a buyer looking at the truck started cryin' about those little things you noticed and was offering thousands less than the asking price, I would simply thank him for stopping by and walk away!! I recently test drove one of these with a brand new Speedway drop-axle chassis and it was just wondering (typical) all over da road! It also had one of those cool-looking exterior sun-visors, never realized that ya can't see da stoplights at intersections when ya pull up. As for space, I'm 5'10" w/ size 9 shoe and I was cramped inside. TG it was an automatic! Kudos for this new owner for wanting/being able to drive a stick-shift, sounds like my Mom, @ 82! LOL Glad to see folks can still find some nice car/truck deals out there, too many of these types of videos usually showcase the very worst in our human natures. Nice vid. Good on you.
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Ай бұрын
I hear what you're saying but nothing I found would justify offering thousands less than the asking price. In saying that often buyers have expectations that simply don't line up with their budget. 10k doesn't buy you a trouble free great driving classic.... @@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 There's something going on with the seat here and I can't quite figure it out unless the pedal location was also modded to bring them closer. There's not going to be a lot of extra head and shoulder room in a stock truck, especially how they would bounce with a solid axle. But there were 6' men even in 1940 and ... none of them own this truck today but it seems like they wouldn't have bought the truck if it was this tight of a fit in 1940. Whatever happened, the customer got a decent and suitable vehicle and there's hope.

Nice to see one on the original frame... So many "monkey see - monkey do" people think you must do a frame swap "upgrade" on these oldies.. Results are often wonky and slightly off.... And S-10 chassis are super flimsy behind the beefy, lumpy front section. This is a much cleaner solution. Sweet truck !!

That's a sweet old pickup. Whoever did the work did a nice job. Should be very reliable, and with that drivetrain it will be very easy to work on and parts are cheap. I'd drive that any day, except being 6'2" I'd have to explore some different seat options. You don't have to have a $100,000 car with an LS to have a nice one. It's actually really nice seeing an old school SBC instead of an LS... Everybody and their brother has one of those.

I have a '72 Ford Pinto wagon with no E brake. the handle broke, and I can't find the parts to fix it with. I's a 4 speed, and I just leave it parked in reverse. I like those old wheels. Not really a fan of independent front suspension on an old truck, or any truck really. A solid front axle with leaf springs is a lot stronger, and you don't have problems with caster and camber alignment. Looks like it's in great overall condition. I'm 6' 240, I doubt I'd fit in it. I have a 383 powered '93 S-10 standard cab, and it's a pretty tight fit.
@mtut
@mtut Ай бұрын
Looks pretty good and sort of a relief there's a lot of decent or at least well-intentioned craftsmanship. I'm not sure i remember those cabs being quite that tight but you're probably 6' tall (which my grandpa was when he'd have driven something like this; he was a Ford guy but he drove himself to the hospital in about 1950 after he fell off a scaffold and broke his back) and I'm not. Could it be that the seat was swapped out for a later frame that had more recline and padding built into it? It's hard to tell but it doesn't obviously look like they shortened the cab longitudinally. So the seat would be the first guess. Might have been mounted ahead to account for the recline and then ... whatever else happened. Original seat would have been kind of thin with an upright back, probably. If the owner fits behind the wheel it's probably not a biggie, but talking S-10 I was afraid someone might have shrunk the cab to fit an S-10 frame - it's apparently been done. Looks much more like the S-10 connection is the front suspension, which is fine on a driver. Would be interesting to compare some specs on the measurements. But I think it's the seat or where it's mounted. I'm 5'10" and these older cabs aren't as roomy as a 1970s truck but I don't remember having any notable problems with legroom but I was a lot younger the last time I drove something this old. Glad it worked out.

Yes sir, those vehicles were not that big. People were not that big and of course the design of the truck cabs and car bodies were not that wide. Growing up in the fifties and sixties (1952-present) these vehicles were quite large to a little tyke (Granddaddy had a 40 Chevrolet 4dr sedan, my Dad had a 1951 Pontiac and a 1955 International 3/4 ton) In later years I have acquired a 1946 GMC 11/2 ton truck (no where near as nice as this truck) The GMC has a 307 engine with the TH 400 transmission. It would be a squeeze to put more than two people in that truck. I viewed a 40 Chevrolet coupe that a friend of mine was doing some paint work on and it had been so long since when my Granddaddy had that 40 it hit me at how small these cars really were. This truck is on the order of the Lincoln that you profiled in an earlier video as it is a modified vehicle meant to drive and who ever did this truck obviously made sure everything was square and done properly. I am really not that much of a fan of the complete S10 frames up under these trucks but putting that S10 clip up front just like the Mopar set-up in the Lincoln is OK by me as long as it is done safely. This is of course a vehicle made for use and not a trailer queen.🥸👍👍👍👍👍

That _could_ be an S10 front end, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. They're not rack and pinion and they wouldn't have the extremely factory looking guard around where the pinion portion of the rack is hanging out. They _do_ have an extremely factory looking bit like that, dead center, to protect the tie rod. Given the probable age of the build, I would have bet money on a Mustang II setup... but it doesn't look that either. 🤔

Pretty sure S10s all used the corporate 7.5/8.5 "ten bolt" axle that assembles from the back. Without looking it up I'd assume Ford 9 inch or maybe 8, just because that's the axle to have in your street car with too many race parts, e.g. driveshaft hoop in a mild 350 swapped truck.

Definitely small interiors, Thats about as good as youd ever "need" on a truck like that. Modern suspension and steering with basic drivetrain.
