Hi Cal, great video. My grandfather owned the company, Qualos. It was all australian company and the Qualos lathes were their own design, not under licence from anyone else. I have a lathe that looks a little different to yours and I am wondering if it is an older model. I would love you to take a look at it and let me know what you think. How can I send you a picture of it and start this discussion?

I had one I restored and the wife talked me into selling it which was a very big mistake as it was a lovely lathe to use

Hi, could anyone tell me the weight of this lathe detached from the bench please?

It’s a Qualos gearheaded lathe! Designed and built in Australia in Melbourne! I have the exact same model.

I might be getting one what's the centre distance and swing and is it metric and imperial for screw cutting? I am a fitter 2nd year but I am still at tafe but yeah good starting lathe

It has imperial lead screw. You need a 127 tooth gear to do real metric threads, some folk get by with 63 tooth it has 5 1/2 inch centre height (11 inch swing). Good luck Steve Callachor. North Avoca

There's a number sta moped on the bed at the tailstock end. ......like 54 71. Meaning. 1954 built number 71 I have one of these ....faultless machine. The company got a leg up in ww2 as military tried to consolidate manufacturing capability for war production. Steve

I like your lathe. I was wondering if the one/off switch pillar connects to the carriage and move around?
@MrMacman987 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No the switch post is bolted onto the side of the deck, stays stationary ;)

Nice! Now all you need to do is make a milling attachment and an indexer than you'll have the same set up as mine, and also decreases the need for a mill.

Those are actually 36w tubes, 40w ones are t12 not t8, fluorescent is becoming obsolete due to new LED tubes taking over.

Would you no how to take the chuck off ????
@stevecallachor4 жыл бұрын
The. Chuck screws on the spindle nose is 1 1/2 inch 8 TPI Whitworth form. It could be hard to move after many years so be careful what you do to shift it. I have a similar model made in February 1954. Steve. Callachor, North Avoca NSM
