She Moved Thro’ the Fair
My young love said to me,
"My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you
For your lack of kind."
Then she stepped away from me
And this she did say:
"It will not be long, love,
Till our wedding day."
The people were saying,
No two e'er were wed
But one had a sorrow
That never was said
And I smiled as she passed
With her goods and her gear,
And that was the last
That I saw of my dear.
I dream’t it last night
That my dead love came in
So softly she came
That her feet made no din
She came close beside me
And this she did say
"It will not be long, love,
Till our wedding day."

Thank you for this treat. This is disc is among John McCormack's last recording sessions. Even with his voice not being what it once was, he could still tell a story in song with great feeling and sensitivity.

Thank you for listening! It is beautiful, isn’t it? I’m usually enamored with singers’ older voices in general-so many more experiences under our belts by then. Nice layers of meaning. Ahhhh. When you add the mastery of Gerald Moore…what could be more magical? Ahhhhhh.

A very lovely recording… and though the great John McCormack may have been a little past his prime, he still knew how to present and interpret a song - and he did it excellently! ✨✨✨ Thanks for sharing! 🙏🍀
