This record was a gift to me from my good friend Andy Briggs (of Burmese Colour Needles)! Thanks, Andy! It’s a treasure.
She Moved Thro’ the Fair. Traditional. Arranged by Herbert Hughes (published 1909).
Sung by Sydney MacEwan. Piano - Duncan Morrison.
Played with a medium Burmese Colour Needle (thorn).
This is an Irish Reissue HMV IP 316 (1945) of a 1937 Parlophone release (R2311).
My young love said to me,
"My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you
For your lack of kind."
Then she stepped away from me
And this she did say:
"It will not be long, love,
‘Til our wedding day."
Then stepped away from me
And she went through the Fair
And fondly I watched her
Move here and move there
And then she went homeward
With one star awake
As the swan in the evening
Moves over the lake.
Last night she came to me
My dead love came in
So softly she came
That her feet made no din
And she laid her hand on me
And this she did say
It will not be long love
'Til our wedding day.
