this song hits harder considering the current world events and today we see similar songs made about the war in Ukraine. The hostorical similarities are striking and proves that although history dont excactly repeat itself it sure rhymes from time to time.

I prefer the old version than the modern day. It’s more melancholic, like if russia had betrayed Finland (which it did in a way, by attacking it in the winter war out of stalin’s pure panic). It sends this “we know you are not our friend” message, which i find fascinating and true. Soviet russia wasn’t just worried with “helping the proletariat internationally”, it also wanted a zone of influence regardless if their neighbors agreed or not. This attitude it still stands to this day really…
