I was taught to always use a lower approach angle and a bit more power on final for wheel landings. I found that practicing them that way taught me to use power better even over obstacles. Thanks again for sharing the whole thing. Many pointers here for all of us who fly tailwheels. You are going to hate trikes from now on.

I have been thinking about making the transition since I suffered a heart attack last January (small one), and I think that my 3rd. Class physical would not longer be valid. I would have to switch to a LSA aircraft most of which are tail draggers. You mentioned that he would “hate trikes.” I would love to have you expand on that. :)

Congrats Gabriel! Your vids have me motivated to get tail wheel endorsed instead of float plane , at least for now. Fly safe!

I am amazed how fast the J3 accelerates with two adults on board, and with a 65HP engine!

How is seating in a J3 for tall people? How much legroom?

Not all that great. It is a great plane to fly (I have owned one) especially with the door open. But the seating is very tight, especially in the front. The other issue is that taking passengers and the need to pilot from the back means you have much more limited view forward when landing than it might appear in this video. His camera is mounted on his head. You land essentially blind all the way down on final. Over 6’ and 200lbs probably should look at another airplane. But it is a great plane to fly otherwise.

Congratulations! There’s nothing else out there like flying a J3 Cub. 😁👍🏼 I am restoring my late Grandfathers 1946 (NC87933) J3 Cub. I hope to be done with it before this fall. Check it out on my channel. Thanks! Safe Flying
