Yes! This project is going to be gold! Automotive work, metal/iron work, wood work, most likely some leather work inside! I LOVE IT! Nice thing about it being a hearse is that it likely led a gentle and slow life.

That puller you used to remove the brake drum was a serious beast! I have to assume that was an antique, I've never seen anything quite like it. I love old cars and motorcycles and it's awesome seeing you tackle this project. I really love the simplicity of those old flathead engines. They're not much more complicated than a lawn mower and can be rebuilt over and over again so long as the block isn't cracked. Can't wait to see how this turns out!

As a woodworker and lover of vintage American custom cars - this is one of my dream builds - we don't have anything remotely like this car in the UK - OK well TECHNICALLY we do, but the Mini Clubman woody which at best is a "walmart mini me" version, 'scuse the pun and I've not seen one on the road for decades.

Turning it over sounds good buddy! Put more oil in it though. There isn't enough to reduce any friction in the engine. The oil pick up can't grab any. Its just sitting in the bottom of the pan! Also put a second battery on it. For the first few start ups it will turn it over easier with out killing the battery. 12 volts isn't enough when those old engines have been sitting that long! Loving it Jimmy! Keep it up buddy!

Shoot you get that thing fixed up you will be driving it all the time because it will ride so nice and be a looker. I suspect it started life as an ambulance since it was white. It looks like after that life it got one of the very common motor home conversions. Those cars were super popular for that because they could handle the weight and had the wheelbase. That piece you broke out of the head appears to have been the heat riser which is designed to send some exhaust heat to the manifold to prevent carb icing in cold weather. Normally they use a spring tensioned flap so when it warms up it cuts the heat off.

Watching you cut all the rotten stuff off, I'm reminded of a thing years ago I watched of a car restoration and at one point he said something like "so after cutting out all the rust and junk parts (then panned to the shop floor where it was laid out) what we managed to salvage was - the hood, a door, the steering wheel and 2, no 3 wheel hubs...., so now we'll rebuild the car" - he was joking ofc, but not by much LOL.

Hey Jimmy, If this was my project, I'd go with a newer style GM platform with LS engine, full running gear on a rolling chassis as this chassis is already too long. Having a newer chassis would take away from everything, brakes, wiring, getting it running, exhaust.., you'd already have the whole shebang! If you had a full chassis, you could send the body part out to shop and then get working on the wood. It could cut the build time down to a bare minimum and save a ton of money while the car could be still moveable. This allows the time where you shine, can't wait to see it finished.
