Being picky, what you call grousers, are really track pads. Grousers are the part of the pad that stick up. You can have pads without grousers. Enjoyed the comparison, thanks.

Doug / you are spot on! When I was editing I noticed, but too late. Definitely track pads, these happen to have grousers. Thanks for watching!

After 12-15 years of searching for a decent 7U, I finally gave up. I ended up with a '64 D4D (1963-77) with gear/direct drive. The D4D doesn't have that nice "bark" of a 7U but it does have one more lever(forward/reverse) than the 6U/7U which keeps the operator pretty busy.

Very similar if not identical to this one depending on your blade. Thanks for watching, I like the D4d a lot.

dost the d4d not run a different style transmission as it run's a reverser or Jonson bar vs the stander gear shift? thanks for sharing
@froghairfarm2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the D4D's transmission is somewhat different to accommodate the reverser mechanism. The trans cover is also different, in that the 6U is a single piece cover, where the D4D has multiple components to make it easier to service. Pretty soon I'll have an early RD-4 to compare against these two. Thanks for watching!!

Hi from Australia, the D4D out here either had a winch or a big single ripper, no pony motor. cheer Pete.

Hey Pete, I have heard that rippers were more common in Australia, than here. I would think the vast majority of D4D's were direct electric start. Thanks for watching!

Those headlights give the machine a face, almost making it seem alive.

They do have a “personality “ - thanks for watching!

How much do d4d normally sell for. Are they collectible?
@froghairfarm Жыл бұрын
Pricing is largely dependent on condition, configuration, and location. They are kind of "in between", functional, and somewhat collectable.

The side shift reverser makes the later cat more handy than the older slide bar shift.

Definitely nicer- hydraulic reverser even better!

The "U" series was built up until 1959 when the D4C was introduced. The "C" was more like the "D" that the prior "U"'s - hope you enjoyed it!
